Don't complain - $55 where I go - and $49 for a pedicure.

I don't get my hair cut but maybe once every three years. I don't use heat or drying color products and trim the ends myself when needed. I don't buy a lot of fancy clothes or jewelry either. I'm home most of the time, so why bother? I figure the hubby gets a pretty good deal ,financially, as far as I'm concerned so I spend a little more on fabric :)

I have the Great Clips routine down to a fine art....be there when they open on Saturday morning! I pay about $15 including a tip. Mine is so ridiculously curly that I can't grow it out even though I'd love to have long hair again....

These gals study anatomy and medical conditions and conform to health regulations ready to work in an operating room. 60%of hairdresers end up in the medical field because of such a closely related program to nursing. Plus they have to pay the house 60% of what they make plus the products they use on you. Then they clean the salon. Wash the towels they use. How much of that 35.00 do they keep? Not much.
You made me curious. I researched and the beauty college near me is 2,000 hours $10,000 (supplies included). Like everything else, it depends where you live.
It still doesn't change the fact that a lot of people like me simply cannot afford the high prices.
I paid $5,700 twenty eight years ago, the cosmetology schools here in small town Florida are $10,000 for technical school and much more for private academys. I received a "box of supplies" when I began school, not nearly the amount of supplies needed to go into the work force, only 12 of each color perm rod, 12 rollers, 2 combs, 1 brush, you get the idea. So yes supplies are included but subjective to interpretation.

it would cost me another 40 to 50 dollars for the haircut here in MA at any Salon . I think it is riduculous, so i go about 4 months between cuts, or go to "Great Cuts" where it is $18 I could see if i was getting something fancy but my hair is one length so i am not paying $50 dollars for something that takes 5 minutes.

I have a daughter who is a stylist and she has worked at salons that charge that much and more for a cut. In central Denver that is an average cost at an independent salon.

I can't get anyone in the cheaper places to cut my hair right. I had a stylist in GA that was cheap at Great Clips but the one I found here ruined my hair. took 6 months to straighten it out. What I do is one month I take the dog to be groomed and the next I get groomed it cost about $40 for each of us with tip. lol I wish I could have brought Angela with me.

I live in a larger city with beauty colleges. Perhaps check the prices of a hair college (if you are in a large enough city) . My daughter is in beauty school here and their prices are more reasonable. Plus I believe that they are watched and helped by teachers before they even touch your hair. My daughter had to take several months of class time, book learning as well as practice on maniquins and models. She is now in her externship. She has earned the privilege to serve people who come in for a personal hair cut. She is doing very well. So some of you who want to recieves some pampering might check out a beauty school. You may find the more reasonable prices you need. She has also been taught manicures and pedicures as well. Sometimes they combine items to make specials. Just a thought for those that can't get the right prices.
