Bodie, yesss - I remember when a 5-figure man was earning $10,000 a year or more - quite a big deal for a man to earn that much, and a woman couldn't expect to earn that AT ALL (at least, no legally) except by marrying a 5-figure man ! ! !

I took a coke cup from Circle K and it says on the cup "44 oz" ..... I measured it and it was 40 oz.
    Their 32 oz. was 30.

Absolutely illegal. The laws of the Nation Bureau of Standards controls and polices weights and measures. If a package says 44oz it MUST be 44oz.

I used to purchase Sunkist orange juice by the gallon to save money, and then as soon as I got home would put it in quart containers to make it easier for the kids to handle. Guess what? Wasn't a full gallon! I measured it so many times and so many ways to make certain of my claim and every time the measure was consistently off by the same number of liquid ounces. I contacted BBB who sent me to a consumer's protective something-or-other. (this was a number of years ago and I can't recall right now the proper agency name)

About 3 weeks after filing my complaint there was no gallon sized Sunkist OJ on the shelf. I asked the store manager why and he said that it was "pulled, but not for a quality reason". Sunkist never directly responded to me personally, but I did receive about 10 coupons for free OJ.

You know, after typing my above message, I'm wondering if a gallon of gas is really a gallon of gas.

Hummm.... I wonder how often the pumps are calibrated for accuracy and who oversees that action. Hummmm... have to look into that one. If I find out, I'll let you know.

Have you noticed how tiny the canned soup cans are now?
They probably hold only two thirds the amount they used to, but sometimes the contents of some kinds are better, like the mushroom soup have a lot more mushrooms in them.

Maybe it just seems better because the can is smaller. LOL!!

I started driving in 1970. Was running out of gas - coasted into the service station - dug a quarter out of my purse and asked for that much gas. When the pump went a few clicks past 25 cents I panicked - that was ALL I had! I told the attendant (remember those?) "I only have 25 cents!" He replied, "I know, but I only have daughters. Now I know you'll make it home." He put a gallon in my tank and it was just a bit over the quarter - maybe 28 cents?

I checked groceries through high school and college. When I started teaching I took a pay cut! Made more checking groceries than I did teaching school. My husband and I - combined - made around $15,000. My mother was on partial pay while undergoing chemo. Her partial pay was more than my husband and I made together. That was around 1976.

I do think we need to be reporting problems to the powers that be, especially in areas where there is truly false advertising as was mentioned in the mislabeling of cup sizes.

I would like to think that there are still companies who are on the up and up about their products, labeling and pricing. It is up to us as consumers to bring the companies who take advantage of customers to light. If we do nothing these practices will contine.

    Ok...off my soapbox..... for now.

How many of you have turned bottles and jars over and noticed how deep the indentations on the bottoms are getting? Another way to fool us about size. We really have to be smart consumers today.

A generic response which did not address the original comment, plus an appeasement. Bah humbug.
