I hate errors good and/or bad. Humans do make mistakes. I do too although I don't work and no one sees my mistakes.

The clerk that helped me with the self scan was still there. I told her that I didn't run my credit card through and I still owed for the order. She told me that she didn't see me do anything wrong. I insisted that I pay for my items around $300.00 worth of items and she finally sent me to customer services and they found a copy of my receipt and I paid for my merchandise. I had to live with myself even though the clerk told me that she didn't see me do anything wrong. I wonder how many times she did that for friends.

May be why items are going up so much.

I bought one item and it didn't scan at the sale price. After they checked the shelf, they gave me a credit for the whole price. I said, I just wanted it at the sale price, but they had to give it to me for free, store rules. I always check my receipts, our store has "virtual coupons" and I want to make sure they are applied.

I hate self check outs. they never work correctly and put people out of jobs too. I like customer service. just a little. I don't need extra problems added to my day and automation isn't always friendly. Causes gray hair!

I love self check outs! I've never had a problem at one, and I get done so much more quickly. I do think it depends on the store and what you're buying though. Some stores "do it right" and others don't.

I have the non perishables, heavy or bulky items delivered so I use the self check out for the small easy baggable things I buy in the store. Mostly fresh and dairy products. Delivery is free over a certain amount so I take full advantage of it.

Right there with you! Guess I'm getting old! Stores cut down on help, thereby eliminating associates hours, cause longer lines at the one or two check-outs they have open, but then have several self check-outs open. It's like they're saying "we just want your money...we don't actually want to wait on you, scan and weight your products, and...oh, by the way....bag it yourself!!" Fortunately there are a couple of good grocery stores near by that always have enough lanes open, and have baggers available.

Around here businesses have a hard time finding people to fill the jobs, there aren't a lot of people "out of jobs" who can't find work. A local business is offering $30 an hour for some heavy work, temporary basis.

If there was a lot of people looking for jobs, yes, I would use cashier checkout.

I saw a young man on the curb asking for handouts, sign says hungry. Right behind him was Waffle House with big sign that said
Now Hiring, ?? Pass a drug test and get hired most anywhere these days especially for unskilled labor.

There’s no such thing as ‘unskilled labour’. Every job out there is necessary for the functioning of society. They all require some skill. Don’t you need an address to get a job? It’s not as simple for the unhoused to gain employment as some people want to portray.
