Since I have a High Schooler, I have to tell you that you hit the nail on the head! Coats are too bulky to put in the lockers. Thankfully, it is pretty "coo"l to wear Northface fleece jackets here in MD so that is what my daughter wears...that and her Uggs

Our front yard was Lake Erie so we knew how to dress in every thing that wasn't in the laundry hamper. We would go to town on Saturday and we'd hit the Mall and I remember thinking their Moms must not love them or she would have dressed them in winter coats and long pants. I never was one of the ''COOL'' kids---Now I even keep a couple quilts in the car.

I think that what many of you are calling flip-flops are in reality fleece lined Crocs. There is a lot of difference.

The wearing of shorts, flip-flops, and no hat, gloves, scarves, and the like in the dead of winter is also amazing to me....but what gets my gall is when a man wears a "baseball" cap in a restaurant........My son-in-law ONE TIME came into my house wearing his cap and I politely asked that he remove it.......I was brought up taught that men remove their headgear inside a house, restaurant........I so would like to ask the lady he is with if he wears that cap in the house too......

We have them in northern WI and I do not get it at all. Shorts and flip flops , real not fleece lined crocs) in 6 inches of snow. Dumb and I thought pants hanging down so their underwear showed was bad enough.

I'm one of those people guilty of only wearing a hoodie or no jacket at all outside unless it's absolutely frigid. I just can't stand big bulky hot coats when I'm shopping. I'm either roasting in it or carrying it around for hours in the stores. I'd rather be cold those 20 seconds jumping out of the car and into the store.[/QUOTE]

I am the same exact way...I hate bulky winter coats at all. I do not even own one and I live in Wisconsin. I know a guy that wears shorts every single day of the year...for everything. He does not even own long pants at all. A person gets use to it. Just like the house temp. My kids when growing up, we had the heat set on 62 and they would run around in their undies...because they were hot...now...we have the heat set at 64 and they freeze because they got use to the temp that their spouses keep their houses at.

Just yesterday I saw a mail carrier wearing a warm looking jacket, a hat, and wearing shorts. I was freezing just looking at him. Our temps have been in the 30's and 40's. We've had snow flurries all day today. Just reading about all this makes me cold. haha

In South Dakota if the temp gets up to 35 degrees then anything goes - especially after a cold spell.

All 3 of our kids and many of their friends wore shorts and flip flops in the middle of winter-especially in HS. We could never understand it, we simply questioned it, but did not say much about it. After all, they could always go to school or stop off at a friend's house and change clothes anyway, right? Too much to worry about and carry around. Now, they bundle up. Here in Wisconsin it can be 50 in the am and below 0 by evening. Many teenagers and young adults brave the cold without the coat if they have a vehicle.
What irks DH and I to no end is adults with children that we see everywhere, that are ignorant to the weather. The adults have hats on, winter coats zipped up, mittens or gloves on, and warm ugg boots. The babies could have a pr of knit booties, their bare skin of their legs sticking out of short pants, an unzipped sweater and no hat on. Toddlers and young kids have thin coats, no hats, no mittens, no boots, and their coats are unzipped or still in the cart when the family is taking the groceries to the car in very cold snowy weather. Yes, it doesn't cause the colds and flus and sick days, but it lowers their resistance. Any wonder why they are miserable and hyper and crabby sometimes. They are cold, their chests hurt, they have sore throats, their noses are running, their ears hurt, they have headaches, their fingers are numb, their skin hurts from being cold, etc. etc. etc.
