Armchair Tour of Cuba-Photos From My Recent Trip to Cuba

Several of you asked me to share some of the photos I took on my trip to Cuba a few months ago, so here they are. It was like taking a time capsule back in time to pre-1950 in many ways. The people were fabulous and they loved to talk to Americans, they spoke a little English and I speak some Spanish. But life is hard there, the average Cuban makes less than $20 per MONTH, although their housing, education and medical care are provided by the government, along with a food ration book for about 1/2 of their food allotment. I gave the equivalent of $1 (more than a day's pay) to each person I photographed along with a small gift/candy/toy and I had LOTS of subjects!!
Due to the 50+ year old US/Cuban Embargo, it is still illegal for US citizens to travel to Cuba unless they are on one of the US State Department approved 'people to people' cultural trips which I was on. I loved it so much I am going back again in January, 2015.
Hope you enjoy a little taste of Cuba from these photos!!

WOW!!!! again, looks like a Nat Geo photo spread. My son would kill for one of those hats. so amazing, Love the bright colors of the stilt walkers. Love the old car. reminds me of the one in your avatar. Thanks for a peek into another culture that's been kept from us for so many years. Thanks for the mini tour. Your photos are always welcome, thank you again.

You are right about Cuba looking like the 50's. We had a neighbor that went to Cuba for vacation back in the 50's, and your pictures me reminded me of the ones they took. The people do look like they are having a good time visiting with you. Thank you for sharing.
Love to quilt and play with the great grandkids

Thank you so much for the show. There was a time when Cuba was the in place to be. If only it could be again. A beautiful country and people.

Amazing pictures - I felt like I was along for the ride - It does look like the locals were having a good time. I've heard that most of the cars are left over from the 50's. Thank you for giving us a peak at Cuba.

Beautiful pictures, thank you, but I'm glad I live here! Government housing?

I am jealous. I just told my husband I saw an advertisement for a trip to Cuba and would like to go. He said I was crazy. I told him it would be a trip of a lifetime one on my bucketlist. But I have no one to go with and it cost double most of the time to go as a single. So thank you for the look into Cuba !

Saw a documentary on what Cuba is like since it was cut off from oil. It has gone back to plowing with oxen etc. The coastline is improving and nature is once again back.
