Arthritis & Quilting..
#1
went to the Dr today because of a painful bead type knot on the joint of my left thumb. Its related to arthritis. Dr put me on some cream and a heavy dose of advil but said I may want to get it removed at some time because its attached to the tendon. Has anyone ever dealt with this and can you give me some advice....

It may be what I have--trigger thumb. I also have trigger a couple of trigger fingers. It's from arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome. It gets worse all the time but I can't bring myself to have surgery. I see the doctor again on Friday. Hope you find relief!

I have basel joint arthritis in the thumbs of both hands. The surgeon recommended that I have them both "fixed" but the operation would require 6 weeks immobility and therapy after that. Can't bear the thought of not being able to do anything for so long!! So-when my thumbs get really sore, I just rest them for a while and go back to work when they feel better.

For six weeks I have been dealing with pain, stiffness and swelling in my right wrist. Doc says osteoarthritis and soft tissue swelling. Total rest (as much as I can).
I am on Voltaren tablets 2x/day and Voltaren gel that I apply to the wrist 3-4 times a day. Plus wearing a big black wrist split 24/7. This week is much better. Swelling and pain much decreased.
Really not interested in going to hand specialist which is the next option. I am so far behind on my projects....grrrrr!!

I have had trigger finger surgery done on both my thumbs and all my fingers except my little fingers. My fingers were actually locking down and I would have to go to the doctor to have him release them. Believe me, the surgery is worth it. I have also had carpal tunnel surgery in both wrists. All this was a few years ago.

I have rheumatoid arthritis and I've had the same issue. The doctor said I might need surgery, too. But I used the Voltaren gel for weeks and weeks and finally it went down. It swells up ever so often now, but not like the flareup I had then.
