Basically, his brain receives pain messages for pain when there is no inflammation. Doesn't matter, his brain receives the pain message and he feels diailating pain. He can now function, hold a job again, and go back to school. Not every day is a good day for him, but with medication and careful management of what he does physically he is so much better. Just watch out for doctors that are just/only pill pushers.
I also don't care for the stigma involved when asking for pain meds, some act as if one is trying to run a con. I know there are people like this, it makes it bad for those who are in true need.

I also have arthritis in my lower spine, with two spurs that irritate the sciatic nerve. Went to PT for a month. what has worked for me is gentle work on an arc trainer for 30 minutes, then I also do an abductor/adductor workout at the lowest weight, 3 reps of 10 each, then on the bike for 20 minutes at the lowest resistance. I also do am yoga with Rodney Yee, and am looking at doing TaiChi. I keep moving because I don't want to end up in a wheelchair! I am fortunate to have a hot tub in which to relax and do some stretches there, and my hubby bought me a great chair to sit in when I sew. It is a bugger gettin old, but every day I wake up on the right side of dirt is a good day.

Chasing Hawk and all who read with pain issues.
I had the bone scan after a very serious auto hit & run.
Easy test for the most part.
I am very drug sensitive; therefore I could only handle Tylenol after accident.
There was so much back, hip and neck pain i was going crazy. I happened to read a recipe that helped out so much and still does years later and I usually end up sleeping like a baby.
RECIPE IS:
1 1/2...cups Epsom salts
1 bottle (1/8 ounce)essential lavender oil
1...cup powdered milk
1 /2...cup baking soda
spread epsom salts on wax paper lined baking sheet and sprinkle lavender oil on it. allow the salts to set until the oil is absorbed; about 30 mins.
mix everything together.
I pulverize mine in a food processor I got at a garage sale (not for food use).
Pulverizing is not necessary and all will dissolve in bath water.
I put a cup into very warm bath and just sit and soak it in.
It totally relaxes all the body in the water; great an hour before bed.
Can start day off this way so body is less pain filled for what it needs to do.
YES...this works
I was hit hard at a dead stop mat 65+ mph
PS...makes great Christmas gift in pretty glass jars.

I have a niece who is a well educated woman and is addicted to narcotic pain killers. She had a couple of surgeries within a year and she became an addict. Her life is a mess, she's been found unconscious, barely breathing several times...been taken by ambulance to hospitals, transferred and released all within a couple or three days. Occasionally has even been placed in drug wards to detox, to no avail. She's back on them within hours of being released. How does she get them??? She's divorced, has a son who wants little to do with her.
Feel sad for her life...how it could have been. What a waste. I pray your son doesn't fall victim to this lifestyle.

Well I had the Bone Scan done yesterday.
I wasn't to comfortable have to lay there for 45 minutes and not move....LOL
Only real pain I had was having to keep my arms above my head. I have had issues with my shoulders ever since the car accident 7 years ago and the surgery that followed.
My visit with the Orthopedic Doctor s set for Thursday when He tells me what the bone scan discovered.
