Have two VB handbags and seldom use them. I use a small purse with a shoulder strap. Occasionally, I will use a tote bag and insert it into the tote. I do not like to leave my purse in a shopping cart. I made a tote bag for DD and her work associates bought some of my totes after seeing hers. It is time consuming to make them because I create my own designs and styles. No two are alike. I use fusible batting and not much quilting. VB is not my fav brand...The ones I like are made by SAC....Two of them have been crocheted. One in wonderful blue granny squares and the other in a navy drawstring shoulder bag.

I make my own bags, too. I had never heard of Vera bags, so I did a search online. With those prices, I will never own a "Vera." I can't imagine spending that much money on a bag even if I couldn't make my own. I carried one of mine into a local quilt shop recently. Another customer complimented me on it. It was my own design and I had used my favorite fabrics. I felt good about what she told me. Then a store clerk came up to me and inspected my bag told me she really liked the finishing touches and the quality of my work. The customer then stated that my bag didn't even look "homemade." She had embarrassed herself and tried to explain. I laughed and told her it was alright because it was "homemade." She then told me she would be glad to go into a store and purchase one just like it. The store clerk agreed and I must say I left the store feeling great. So keep up the good work Sandy and enjoy your own bags.

I would rather invest in a "ME" bag.... lol... I am going to make a purse with matching stuff and when one asks me about it... I will say, Oh no, this is not a Vera bag, it is a ME bag, the lastest bag around....

The Professional Tote pattern is by The Creative Machine and has pockets galore. I've made three of them. I had to mark each pattern piece and work slowly, checking off each step. It was worth it. The bags are fantastic.

So true, your custom creation is something that no one else will be walking down the street with. I am sure you put more time into your bag, than they do in a factory, they just throw them together, and most likely are not even made in the US. They get them made cheap overseas and because of her name they charge big prices. At least you know yours is made better.

I'm a Vera bag lady. I love the big duffle bag and the smart phone wristlet. It holds my Iphone in otter case easy. I never pay full price and buy when it's 60% off. If you sign up you get the email for 60% off all the time. Vera is the thing right now for most young girls but only certain fabrics. LOL. My granddaughter has asked for Vera Bradly the last two years. I keep her stocked with Vera with the 60% sales.
