How can I prevent static around my new machine of which the body is made of plastic, my threads go flying everywhere and do not stay behind the machine? Everything sticks to it! I have not yet got my head around leaders and enders but I guess this is one way of stopping it! It is only when I sew polyester fabrics using poly thread or man made fabrics, cotton and cotton thread is OK. It is driving me nuts! Does anyone else have this problem? My old machine was made of metal, never had any problems at all!

Many thanks Craftybear, oh dear, this may be more serious than I thought, I have not seen any of the fabric sheets you mention here in New Zealand but I shall check out the super market more closely next visit, I am going to get hubby to look into all the techno stuff for me, we do get surges here and complete blackouts due to high winds and ice and snow at certain times of the year, better to be protected in the correct way!

You can use the Bounce fabric softener sheets (or those kind) that have already been used in the dryer. Works great for TV's.

I haven't consider static in relation to my sewing machine. I know about it with my computer but hadn't thought about it with my machine. I sew in a room that has a 50 gallon aquarium. I would suppose that is the reason I haven't had a problem with static. Thank you for this post and the extra information relating to the electronics on the machine. thanks so much for this link. I save used dryer sheets to use in art crafts but never thought about some of the uses listed on the site. Now I can save even more of them and actually use them.

Can you buy Static Guard in NZ? Here it is usually in the laundry aisle. It is a great product.
