Calico!
#21
I love calico cats. If I could ever have a cat again it would definitely be a calico. I travel north & sound every 6 months so a cat is out of the question. My little 6 lb. Peke is a perf. pet for me.

With 19 cats in the family, you would think we would have a calico, but the closest we come is tortoiseshell. Faye is pictured and she is my furbaby. She is a dilute tortoiseshell and is keeping me company while I quilt. My daughter has a beautiful, dark tortoiseshell.
A male calico is possible, but extremely rare and they are generally sterile. Orange females are not as rare as a male calico, again it's a genetic thing. I used to think that the darker the orange, the more likely to be male...volunteering on a spay neuter van showed me that thought was WRONG! LOL

We have had our Lizzie for only a few months. She is estimated to be less than 2 years old. Can you believe this sweet little beauty spend 60 days in the cage at Pet Smart where the local shelter cats are showcased? It was love at first sight, and we snapped her up from the jaws of death. Our other cat is a big gray and white female, also short haired. Both have been fixed, of course. I've had many cats through the years, but this is the first calico. Lizzie is loving and obviously very helpful as a quilting assistant. She makes us smile every time we see her. I'm glad my DH loves cats as much as I do. They always like him, too.

Would you say calico cats are the batiks of the feline world? We had one named Babe for many years, she was a dark tortoiseshell. And there can be male calicos, but they have three sex chromosomes and are sterile.
