Today we went on a picnic with my two sons, and oldest's fiance , my sister and her two kids, and furry grandson. We had an absolute ball. It was at a small park outside of Eugene, Oregon, you have to pay three dollars to get in, so my youngest just parked his car in the outer parking lot(where it's free to park), and walked in. When we went to leave, someone had smashed in his passenger side window, and all they took was two dollars. Thank goodness that's all they took, in the back seat was a $1,000 Nikkon camera. But this was on the busy Highway 126. Just needed to vent. Can you believe the nerve of some people. This kind of thing really bothers me, thank goodness the car is still being purchased, and he has full coverage on it, what about some of the people that don't have insurance, and something like a broken window could really set them back. He's only 24, and he's just starting out. He's got a great job with the Forest service, and works really hard for everything he has.

The same thing happened to my son when he was in college in Boston. He came out one morning only to find his window smashed with his stereo ripped out of the dashboard and a couple dollars worth of change in the middle compartment of his seats missing. They really ripped the h... out of the dashbord.

The following year he came out to find his newer car totaled by a hit and run. The hit his car so hard that it was smashed like an accordian as it was pushed into the car ahead of him.

I don't think this is all that uncommon, however I don't understand how someone can do this and just walk off!

I thank God in both cases that my son wasn't in the car as who knows what could have happened!

Just remember material things can be replaced! Glad no one was hurt or worse!

He was going to report it tomorrow, but they called him to go out fire fighting, and doesn't know when he'll be back. He usually stays out up to three weeks, no telling where they will send him, there are several large fires going on right now, several in Ca. and some in Wyoming. His friend might do it for him. But, you're right, we are lucky, they could have stolen his camera,he's really good a t taking pictures, he took my avatar. I think it's beautiful, but I may be prejudice. I just can't believe that it happened in broad daylight, on a very busy highway. And, they did it for 2 dollars.

Looks like they were $2.00 shy of having $3.00 to pay to park. People just don't think about other people anymore it's all about me. errrrrrrrrr

I've had that happen. The one night I didn't set the alarm, someone broke the driver's side window. They left all the cd's, etc but took the stereo system from the dash and trunk. They even took the time to put the screws back in place. I don't know how someone can do that and have a conscience. Drugs and money drive people to do weird things.

So sorry to hear this happened to your son! People can be so destructive and it really is appalling at the behavior people will exhibit. When I was probably about 19 or so I had a cherry red camaro and I went to visit a friend in Buffalo-street parking only. Needless to say I was sitting in the friend's house and I heard a crash and then an alarm. I said I bet you that was my car..my friend was like no way! Well someone had deliberately hit my car taking out the driver side mirror. It did not appear to do any other damage...until I started the 6 hour drive home and noticed the steering wasn't right. The tires had been turned slightly out when parked and apparently the car had bounced off the tire and sent it inward completely messing up the alignment and the frame...that was the worst. Of course when we called the police it took them 45 minutes (the station was 3 minutes from her house) to get there and then when they did they never even got out of their car just said to me-there is nothing we can do if you didn't get a plate number...grrrrrr
Sorry again to hear this-it is very frustrating especially when you work very hard for what you do have!
I love your avatar picture too kwilt-he did an awesome job! (But I love fire photos anyway-I was a volunteer FF for a while and have a BF who still is)
    Hugs
