Of all the nerve but not surprising nowadays. I would keep a close eye on all his credit cards and bills to see if they are already using his information. Shred or burn everything you can!

I've been through probably a half-dozen shredders in the last 10 yrs or so. 'Open burning' is not allowed in NJ. Thank heavens for the chiminea! I agree though, everything needs to be shredded/burned unless it is true junk mail. That does get recycled.

I bought a paper shredded years ago for this very reason. You never know what people are going to do. Now I just put stuff in a bag until full & then burn it in our fire pit. Gone forever.

A few years ago , I had a similar thing happen. I put my trash out and someone went through even the bag of dog poop to get to the "other" stuff. When I called the police just to give them a heads up that this was happening... all they would say is "once its at the curb its no longer theft".I still shake my head that someone would dig through the dog poo...to try to find info. It makes me crazy that I have to spend $$( shredder) to get rid of stuff I never wanted in the first place ( credit card applications).

I signed up somewhere a long time ago to stop all credit solicitations in the mail. It worked. I seldom get one in the mail now. I wish I could remember where I signed up.

We burn anything we don't need that has personal info on it. Any of those credit card offers that show up go into the burn barrel. When we travel just a laptop and our flip phone go with us as far as electronics. No personal info.....banking etc. is on either. The only use that laptop has is to look up stuff, if we are out traveling and need banking info we stop at one of the many bank branches around we do business with.

I recently did this and now don't get any of that stuff in the mail. Takes a few weeks for it all to get out of the system but what a pleasure.
