I am so happy to report that my daughter was able to finally return to her apartment in the First Ward neighborhood of Binghamton, NY. Her 2nd floor apartment was not damaged in any way, but due to the rising flood waters, the basement was completely flooded out and left her water heater out of commission.....this resulted in the City condemning hers and all the surrounding homes. She was an evacuee for 14 days - all I can say is thank God for the kindness of her friends who took her and her two kitties in.

This is just so sad! My part of the country seems to never hear about these things after the first news report, and therefore, unknowing, we don't pray. On my part I will rectify that as soon as I click "send"

well the flood waters have receded, but there are still hundreds stuck living in shelters as their homes were badly damaged by the flood. My daughter works at a hotel in the city and it's still housing many families AND their pets (with permission by the new owner - a really nice man). They've nowhere to go!

The devistation in the Triple Cities, Owego and surrounding areas is horrific. We live outside the Binghamton area and had to go into Vestal a few days ago. All you see is piles and piles of peoples' belongings lined along the streets waiting to be picked up and taken to the landfill holding area. Some of these same people went through this five years ago. Just started to get themselves back to normal and hit even harder this time. Many homes have been condemned and will have to be destroyed.

it's so aggravating to me that the news channels have all but forgotten what's going on up there. While it was happening, it was blasted all over the television, but now that the flooding has receded, there's nothing more being reported. FEMA is still very much in force helping those in need; the shelters are still housing families. The devastation is still very real, and the outside world has no idea!

Locally, the Binghamton channels, still have day-to-day update coverage. A friend of DH was working in Owego and he was just shocked at the almost total destruction of that area.
