I know what you mean. The first time I made anything out of really nice fabric when I made a flower girl dress for my granddaughter for her aunt's wedding. After I got the fabric, it took forever for me to make the first cut. I was terrified of ruining it! It was easier with the wedding dress, as my daughter had not had it cleaned and stored properly. It was just in a vacuum bag. It was stained and not enough space that was not stained to get a cutting. So--nothing ventured, nothing gained. I washed it and it came out beautiful, not a stain left. Even the lace came out clean. I was lucky!Originally Posted by sharin'Sharon
I was commissioned (twice!!!) to make baptismal gowns from "Mommy's" First Communion dress. They turned out really nice. I don't think I would have 'guts enough' to cut into a wedding dress because I wouldn't want mine cut into. Doesn't make sense....it just hangs there in the closet doing no good!!!

Another thing I did not do. I did not include the story of the dress. Will have to do that, also. Thanks!Originally Posted by EmiliasNana
What a fabulous heirloom. Hope you include the story about its origin with the dress and many generations will continue to wear it and cherish it. I made one for my middle son's children and embroidered the names of the kids and their birthdates on the slip in white so it wouldn't shadow through the dress. Your GGD is beautiful and her smile says it all.
