Does anyone else hae oodles of the lighted Christmas houses? I have collected them for years and I have so many I don't have room for them. I have not felt like celebrating the past few years due to losing my mother right at Christmas time 2006. My grandson found them in the closet a week or so ago and he is wanting to put them out. He has no idea to the number I have. Any idea how to display them in multiples?

I don't have any, but I understand why Christmas is so hard for you to get excited about. I lost my husband almost 2 years ago, right before Christmas. I just don't have the excitement about Christmas I had previously. Hope you find a creative way to display them. It would be beautiful!

A friend spreads a "blanket of snow" (batting), then sets up a village scene, with all the same size near each other and a set of smaller ones behind, as though they wer farther away. Rounded piles of fabric, or small pillows, can form hills under the "snow".
May the peace of the Lord Jesus, whose birth we celebrate at Christmas, make your memories of loved ones a blessing.

I am sorry about you losing your husband. It makes it hard at Christmas but I have decided to do a better year for my three grandkids this year.

I do this too but I am talking about maybe 150-300 houses. I have boxes and boxes stored in the closet he does not even know about. I have all sizes of them and all the little sleighs, carolers and "little people" as Nick calls them. I just don't have room for all of them. Some are old. Some are matching sets. I bought Nick his first one this year. It was a Santa's workshop I got at rite Aid. He now wants more for Christmas. I also gave him choice figures from one metal tin of the small people.

I would go so some local stores and as for cardboard boxes of different sizes. Then stack, drape with batting and arrange your village on them. Perhaps you don't need to use ALL of your collection or use different ones in different rooms. You can make your mountain village as large or small as you want to.

P.S. My mother passed in January of 2003 and Daddy got killed 5 months to the day later. The first few holidays are the worst but the pain will lessen eventually. Instead of remembering it as the time that you lost your mother try making it a celebration of the life she lived. Include something of hers in your decorations and just say to yourself or even out loud, "This is for you, Mom." Make new memories with your grandson for him to cherish as much as you cherish the memories of your mother.

Have your grandson help you set them all up, it will be something fun for him, and perhaps a new tradition! It's time for you to start enjoying Christmas again.

I set my up like a village on top of my dining room buffet. I have a small mirror for an ice pond in the middle.
I too lost my mom about 5 years ago a couple days after Christmas. Each year brings memories of how she so enjoyed the holidays & I like to think anything I do to celebrate is a tribute to her.
Let your grandson choose his favorite ones & have him set them up with you. Sounds like he's reaching out to his grammie to start a special tradition.

I have a lot also but since moving to this house I really don't have a place to display them. I make a small scene under the tree in my family room, using a theme. This year I put them on two wide ledges I have im my family room. I put lighted garland behind them and lined them up with small pieces in between. That way they at least out of the boxes. I have also made scenes on top of the entertainment center or on the shelves under my coffee server. No one else in my family has any interest in them so someday they will probably end up in the thrift stores.

Years ago my son built me a 2 layered platform that fit into the corner and my tree sat down into a hole that made it look like it was growing out of the ground and then I put the houses under there. Lots and lots of work. I used anything from stryofoam to dishes out of my cupboard to make hills and mountains etc. It was fun. Now it is just too much work and I can't crawl around on the floor like I used too.
