I know everyone has "preconceived notions" about certain states and/or countries. What are some of the things associated with where you live that just aren't true?

I am a Minnesotan, ya sure you betchya!
Ok, so we don't really talk like that... well, most of us don't!
We are not all lumberjacks, nor do we all wear plaid flannel shirts. We have 4 seasons, and they aren't all winter!!  It gets hot and muggy in the summer, and can get bitterly cold in the winter. Spring and fall are nice though! (usually!) Oh, and that "Minnesota Nice" thing you've all heard about?? It's (mostly) true!!
I could think of quite a few more, but let's hear what others have to say!!
This could be fun! (and may even set some of us straight!)

    What about everyone else?

Oregon -- it rains all the time. Not true! the coast gets rain (Astoria area gets 53" or so a year). Central Oregon (Bend area) gets - what - 2" a month in the winter -- for about 3 months. Other areas can get even less!

Another: We don't want Californians here....not true!!! We LIKE Californians.....so long as they don't move here and try to change our ways!

Upstate New York. People think of New York as being all like the city. I have to admit I did to before I came here. I came from California and never saw any other pictures of New York.

We have our rolling mountains, suburbs, and big city. Just like any other state.

I also get the impression that people think we are all rich. Not true, but certainly wish it was! LOL

You really Don't pronounce the S in Illinois.
Not all of Illinois is in Cook County nor is it called Chicago.
Our governors don't really make our license plates. In reality they get to go to a federal prison.
Most common misconception: Illinois has some honest politicians. We don't.

Hmmmm. Canada (Montreal to be precise)
We don't live in igloos. We have electricity, don't go around on dog sleds, we have hot and humid summers.

Exactly! And people who live an hour north of New York City think that they live "upstate," lol!! Please - keep driving another 4 or 5 hours, then you're upstate.

People think CA and think nothing but masses of people and overpriced properties-not true, especially in northeast CA.

In Ireland we do not have Leprechauns (An elf who looks like a little old man according to Irish folklore.)
