Thanks for all the good advice.. I finally went with Bitdefender...it was rated #1 by PC Magazine for 2014 and they had a special going...so it's on there and seems to be doing well..thanks again...I checked several out that you all listed...

I had used Norton for so many years, it bogged my system down. My friend went on QVC and bought the Trend Micro, you get to use the anti virus for up to 5-7 computers and runs about 99.99 and it is good for the life, she gave me the software for 2 of my computers, I actually love Trend Micro, very pleased with it.

I use Avast! and I've never been hit with a virus. It totally disables pop-ups. I have to click on a section underthe tool area to allow pop-ups that I WANT to see. I use Carbonite for backup. It backs up software as well as files. I wouldn't be without either.

I swear by Trend. I have used others but there was no comparison. I do shop around online to get the best deal possible when it is time to renew. Last year I got it for $19.99 on Gateway's site even though I don't own a Gateway. It is time for me to start looking again since I only have about 3 weeks left on my year.

I have recently started using Emsisoft. I read that Microsoft security essentials doesn't do the job anymore and Avast is getting resource hungry. Emsisoft has a free version and a paid version (I think I paid about $30 for use on up to 3 computers) and includes anti malware as well as anti virus and is very highly rated. I've been very happy with it.
