Do our cats manipulate us?
#11
Ooooooh let me count the ways!!!!!! We have one that wakes us in the mornings in a most UNUSUAL way! We have a picture above the chest of drawers. It's a picture of a "cat with an attitude"...with frame and glass. Our Dasher gets up on the chest and paws and meows at the cat about 5:00 every morning. The minute we start to move around he jumps down. He KNOWS it'll get us up!

I don't have kitties right now, but I will again some day. DH is VERY allergic, but if he pisses me off - - - too many more times - - -
I love all your stories.
We just came back from visiting the DGS's (oh yeah, we visited DS and DDIL, too) & 2 dogs, an adorable female Wheaton (Geko) and a 'busy' male Jack Russell (Walter). Every time I sat down, Geko cuddled up next to me. DDIL called to tell me Geko went into deep depression when I left. NO one gives her as much attention as I do - too much competition. I don't even realize I'm petting her - it just happens - I KNOW you all know what I mean.

Yes, they sure do. You should see mine in the morning when they want their teaspoon of cottage cheese. I always know when they need water because FiFi will drag the water dispenser over to the sink. But I wouldnt give them up for the world.

our cats definitely have us trained well. Koko (our only male) has a
soft pathetic cry when he wants to play or wants attention. Mostly he's
a quiet little guy tho. Sheba is the queen (and knows it) and she does
not meow or even sound like a normal cat. She yips and squeaks.
Pepper is the little princess who wants to be queen. She has a very
loud and demanding meow. Don't know how we wound up with 3 cats
when we only wanted one - I think they hypnotized us! The house would
not be the same without them though. We love them and spoil them
rotten - our friends and neighbors claim they want to come back as our
cat when they die.

Mr. Bean starts with a basic meow, and progresses to a very annoying and almost ear-piercing yowl if we don't jump to his bidding. If we still won't do what he wants, he scratches the furniture, gets on the counter or (last resort) tries to bite us. (The little shit!)
The difference between DH and me at that point is that DH will do what kitty wants. I throw things at kitty.

I've been a cat lover since I was little. Dad used to tuck the kittens in his denim jacket and bring them to the house to show me as soon as they were old enough to leave the nest in the barn. I blame him for the endless stuggle with fur that we have had since then. Now both DD's are cat lovers, too. Both say that they will be crazy old cat ladies like me. I think that's a compliment?

Oh zzyzx definitely had different purrs! I always called one her "kissing up" purr, when she was hungry or wanted a treat. That's when she would let me pick her up or would jump up on my lap - otherwise she's rather be left alone

My sister's cats(5, including the newest addition) definitely rule the roost. One has to have her food on the back deck with her cream. It used to be milk until I started having cream around, and she got spoiled. She also has to buy a certain food or they protest. I inherited my Mom's cat when Mom passed, so I buy food for her. Here is the crazy part----they all eat out of Taylor's(my cat) dish, even miss picky.
