I am 56 and my hair is long. It has been that way almost all my life. I keep it long for several reasons If it is short you have to have regular hair cut, you have to style it every day unless you have the type of wonderful hair that you just wash and go. Long hair is easy I usually wear it in a french braid or i put it up in a twist or bun, I never wear it loose .. I don't think it looks good on older women.

Up till the age of about 40, I still had below the shoulders hair, but got mad and cut it to make DH put in electrical air conditioning. He did when the baby (33 tomorrow) hurt his hands crawling over the floor register. But I liked the short hair and it is far easier to keep up now at the age of 77. More or less wash and wear, just squeeze it up into curls till dry, it'll stay that way.

Great discussion. I'm debating getting my hair lobbed off after letting it grow for over a year. I've always had the top shorter because I hate the hair in my eyes when the wind blows. When I got it cut very short several years ago my co-workers told me it made me look 10 years younger. I think I will go for the instant face lift next Wednesday.

    NO!!!!!

My mother would call me starting at 25 "you're 25 now are you going to cut your hair?" "You're 30 now are you going to cut your hair?" She has always had short hair, she loves her hair. As a small child she kept my hair very short as well. I hated being called a boy. I have a full head of blond healthy hair, I am 50 now and I am NOT cutting my hair. My husband loves my hair, it is only about bra strap length but he does not want me to cut it. If it ever gets really thin and scraggly, maybe I will but why should I cut my hair just because I am over 30!!!!

Many women cut their hair when they get older because their hair becomes brittle or they are suffering hair loss (not as bad as men's baldness, but it does happen). If you have plenty of hair, no reason to cut it. Enjoy it!

I cut my hair shoulder length because it kept breaking when it was longer. It looked horrible having all these broken ends.

I think how any other person cuts or styles their hair is absolutely none of my business. Just as my choices in hair styling (or lack of) is none of theirs :)

My hair is fine, but I have A LOT of it. I lost some after instant menopause, but after a couple of years it started to grow in again. I like it long for several reasons, but the most important is that during the summer I can put it in a pony tail and it is off of my neck and much cooler. Sometimes I wear it down and I DON'T think it looks bad just because I am older.

HEy...I think we all have any choice we want to wear our hair how we want....I have worn so many hair styles..had many different colors and I just kind of go with the flow.

BUt I have to say that I made a pact with a girly friend that I would join the red hats when I got old enough....and I will probably wear "helmet " hair when I get older...Why? Be cause I will deserve to go get my hair done every week ...and have someone else take care of it for me.
    YAhoo!

It's surprising to me how many say they go by what their DH likes about their hair style. Honestly I've never asked my DH anything about my hair other then Did that bug fly in my hair!?!!
