Do you forget how to spell a word?
#42
I am typing away on this board and want to use a specific word and can't spell it. I try and try but I can't remember. I use to be an excellent speller. Now, not so much. So, I have to restructure the sentence and put in a different word, something simple, to put my thoughts in the thread. Anyone else have this problem?

I used to do that to my husband when he was overseas. I even used a red pencil, sent him a dictionary, sent him a list of his spelling mistakes, but guess what he didn't care!!Ha Ha It wasn't until he was going up for promotion that he started checking his spelling.

do you use Firefox as your browser. it is a free download if you don't. it has spell check built in. that way, you can spell the word as close as possible. then when the browser underlines it in red, right click on the word and it will give you suggestions. i use it all of the time

I, too have been a reporter, taught English at the high school level, taught government and economics at the high school level, taught writing to classes and individuals, have been paid to write chapters in specialized books. I have a dictionary--a real, paper dictionary--and just yesterday used it to be sure of the definition of a word I wanted to use because it sounds so pretty. While I could spell it, I discovered that it didn't mean anything close to what I thought it did. Hooray for dictionaries and other such aids. I don't know anyone who does not occasionally need them. froggyintexas
Not really, but then I've been an editor and proofreader several times over the years, taught ESL when I lived overseas, worked as a reporter, etc. My ex was in the Navy and when I got his first letter I sent it back with all his spelling and grammer corrected - he should have know then, right? I can be a noodge but have learned to not return letters with corrections anymore. I'm sure it will catch up with me at some time, but so far I haven't had that problem. Lots of other problems, but spelling and grammar are still intact. For today, anyway.

I just open my office Word, type the word in there because it has spell check. Sometimes that helps sometimes not. It is also suppose to do grammer check but I've found it isn't 100% right because it has at times made suggestions that didn't make sense.
