The diet you are feeding Suky is pretty good. The only thing I would add is cooked beans and other grains like barley, quinoa, etc. They can eat anything we can eat except avocado, chocolate and fatty food is not good for them either. A diet of sunflower seeds is like giving them french fries all the time. With a good diet they can live a long time.

He always has fresh water. I take him outside on covered patio when temp.s are in mid to high 70's. I spray him with warm water during the summer and when he tries to take a bath in his drinking water. I'm also wondering how warm to keep the house for him. I've tried to find out can't get any real answers though, forget to ask at Bird store, they also raise birds in their home. Any answers would be appreciated.
I like cockatiels because my youngest Daughter had one for 16 yr.s, she only fed him sunflower mix from Wal Mart, she bought one and I fell in love with her and talked daughter out of her, paid for her and all her supplies, I had her 5 yrs. when she just fell to bottom of the cage, her legs were paralysed, took her to avaian vet, he didn't know why, he consulted w/ bird specialist, he didn't know why, finally realized it wouldn't be good to keep her since she couldn't walk around nor fly, I had her put down, she had a large vocabulary and could whistle several things, her mind was very sharp and I couldn't get her to eat anything nor drink water, that was a year ago and It still hurts, always will.
Sorry I didn't mean to write a book.

J/K, really, she's not interesting like some of your birds. She doesn't talk or anything, but if you run the water in the sink she babbles on, sometimes she just starts screaming for no reason. She tries to babble over the sound of Sasha's nintendo games ( to be fair, the final fantasy music drives me crazy too) and she can hold a pretty good conversation with my sewing machine, lol!
We do NOT let her out of her cage, she's not tame at all. She bites, and doens't really know how to fly very well since we don't let her out, so she'll fly right into the wall, or into the window, and my siamese cat would very much like to eat her for lunch. She's kept in a pretty big cage, high up in the living room.
Most birds like to take baths - maybe that's why she responds when she hears running water. She might like a small dish of lukewarm water to bathe in sometimes. It may take her a few times until she gets into the water, but once she does, she'll love it. And, it's fun to watch a bird taking a bath.

Birds have a reason for everything they do. We just don't always know what the reasons are. :-)

I only give Suky the above mixture with a few unshelled sunflower seeds in it, they told me to only give as a treat and I do. I sometimes give him a few cheerios and a few cornflakes, I read they can these occasionally, have read everything I've found and have a couple books on cockatiels. I don't feed him the stuff suggested, I don't eat it myself, too busy eating what is left of the veggies. Suky is in the corner of our small dining room and I talk to him lots when I'm home.

Here are some pictures of my conure, Buddy. As you can see he follows me all over the place and loves to keep me company in my sewing room.

Beautiful bird! My cockatiel stays in his cage. Between cats and dogs he would be dead meat, fast! How do you keep him from pooping on everything when he's out? LOL
