I LOVE Pinterest. I just scroll through all the pictures and if I'm interested, I click to go to the original site. I agree it's a way to get more promotion for bloggers or other sites. As I recall, there was a way to go in without opening up my address list.

If this conversation continues, please remember to keep it in a friendly tone.
i speak only for myself ...
when i post, i am granting the QB certain permissions/license to the words and images i post. if i post something here, my intent is to post it here - not to make it available for use to promote or benefit any other site. i would not be at all happy to find anything of mine ripped off our pages here and pinned someplace else without my knowledge and permission. i do not believe that anybody else has the [ethical] right to decide for me where my content is posted. regardless of what the law might say, i would feel (for lack of a better word) violated if i saw something of mine posted anywhere i didn't put it myself.
i am with those who say that just because a thing can be done, we should not automatically conclude that it should be done, or that it's right if it is done.

is somebody from here doing it for YOU...
check out all of the photos that have been "pinned" from the quilting board to pinterest!
most without permission I am sure....this is why Pinterest is in hot water over copyright violations!

I wasnt saying its right or wrong, just that nothing on the web is private/secure, what can be done will be done no matter how secure we thnik something is. If you dont want to take any chances of your pictures or anything being "pinned" or otherwise then you shouldnt post it....

Bottom line if your privacy of a photo is that important ... and you have concerns about being copied , don't post it on the internet where anyone can have access.

I found the Quilting Board by googling a sewing/quilting matter. I am sure that there will be more people discovering the Quilting Board when they see something they like on Pinterest. I attempted to pin something on the Quilting Board and was concerned that my personal information was displayed and deleted the pin within seconds. I realize that you need to be logged in for your name to be displayed but I felt uncomfortable. When I see something from the QB I want to save, I copy and paste the picture to 'quilts I like' in 'My Pictures'. I do like to pin quilts, and find that Missouri Star Quilts, American Patchwork & Quilting, Quilt Festival, several Blogs, and other similar sites offer a lot of patterns and tutorials to pin. I have selected to follow them to see all they offer.

I personally find that Pinterest allows me to give the person who's work I'm viewing credit. Before I had no way to really remember who's work it was that inspired what I was working on, and I wasn't able to give them proper credit. When you pin, it's basically posting a link to the site where the person posted the information.
Would you also consider it a copyright infringement for me to blog about a quilt that inspired me and put a link to the person's work for others to follow and see?

I really like Pinterest. I usually try to go to the original site and pin from there so it is truly linked back to the original source. Since the person has already posted their information on the web in an open free to all area, they should know that anyone can access, copy, use that information, Pinterest is a way that allows more visits to their sites. I used to find something I wanted to add to my "to do one day" bucket, print it out and place in a binder, now I can save a tree or two by using Pinterest. I think if you do not want the world to have access to your information, don't put it on the web.
