I'm starting the granddaughters early - hopefully one or all three will be quilting with me!

I just bought my DD a sewing machine. I promised her one for finishing college. She wants to do some mending and some clothes for her DD. I expect she'll do some quilting before long and be raiding my stash too. She does knit, crochet and tat.

I have 3 daughters and 2 DIL -- none quilt or even sew much. I do most of the mending, hemming, etc. There are 3 GD's and one may one day quilt. She's done it off and on since she was small. I started sewing at 12 and never quit, but I didn't start quilting until after I retired so was 65/66 by then. I have high hopes that some of them (or future GGC's will be interested--if not, I've left instructions that my fabric should be offered to the quilt guild friends first!! However, I think I may follow this lady's idea:
I got my start with fabrics when a lady who had sewn a lot was ready to dispense her stash. Through word of mouth people were invited to look at it. If you were going to use it for mission projects, there was no charge. If you wanted it for yourself, it was $1/yard (this was 10+ years ago.) But I thought that was a pretty good way to take care of it. She had a friend who helped, but she took care of her fabric before she died. They had it marked as to amount, and you had to take the whole piece, they didn't do any cutting. Just thought I'd share this. In her case, the proceeds went to missions as well.

I have twin daughtters one in fla and the other I live with. the one in fla doesn't and is happy not doing crafts but the one with me quilts and quilts and quilts. we have quite a large quilting room in the basemant and i love every minute downstairs quilting with her. kids are such a blessing

My daughter is quite artistic but tends not to prefer sewing. However, she has a large stash, accumulated when accompanying me to quilt stores. She usually sewed when not around me, like at camp when she would teach others. Her preference is jewelry design. On the other hand, my now-8-year-old godddaughter was bitten by the quilting bug and bitten hard. I gave her a sewing machine a year ago though she really prefers sewing with me on my machine. Last summer, she made a small (12x18 inch) wall hanging all by herself, except I bound it for her. Her next project is almost done. It's 8" squares, sewn in a 7x7 setting from fabrics in my stash. They are mostly dog and cat fabrics with some others thrown in cause she liked them. Can we say mish-mash? But, so far, she's sewn the blocks all together and we're waiting for time when she can add the borders. She picked out two fabrics for the backing--a cotton mermaid print and a flannel hello-kitty print (gag!). I tried to convince her to use one, but being my girl, she asked, Can't we cut and piece the back too? How could I say no?? We have already picked out the pantograph for the quilting, which she will help with on my HQ16. It will be full-size by the time it's done. And, little quilter she is, she has already picked out our next project!

I am so lucky, both daughters make quilts, and both of them hand off their scraps for my charity quilts. They also are far better at color usage than their mother, so for special projects, I take one of them with me. piecefully, the old one

my son will be 21 in feb. as a child i taught him to cook (he went to culinary school now in Eastern Med school)
also to sew and quilt, he made me 3 quilts 1st at 7 2nd at 9 and 3rd at 11. i taught him how to sew a shirt, pants, install a zipper, sew cuffs and buttons. hey you never know when he'll need it.

Not sure who will be the lucky recipient of all my stash. The daughter i have is not interested and neither of my sons would be caught dead quilting. I get to inherit my moms stash cause neither one of my sisters care about it.

My grown DD does quilt, in fact she is doing Farmer's Wife on this web site. After DS married he bought his wife a sewing machine and she really didn't know how to use it, so she spent a week with me that summer learning to use her machine, and she loves piecing, applique, and she has use my mid arm. So has my DD. This past summer I introduce the GD, 7 yrs old, to the sewing machine and we did some simple 4 patch, 9 patch potholders and the folded square/triangle mug rugs. She got on so fast! :D DD gave her FQ and material for Christmas, cut them out for her and started her sewing on them before she went home. I continued to help her the next day, but she didn't get her doll quilt done. She's coming up this weekend, I'm hoping she will bring it with her. I'm very pleased with my "girls" and their love of quilting. DIL has put it on hold since their second child, and in another year the third will be in preschool so maybe she'll get back to it then.
