All of our beagles do it to varying degrees. Sadie has to crochet an afghan and build a fort before she can sleep, but Parker just needs to dig at the sheet a little and spin around a new times - her "nest" is psychological, I guess. :)

it comes from their pre-domesicated days.In the wild they would make "nests" to lie in, their "bed", something that is in their psyche

I'm pretty sure my BG just does it to do it. She will wait until I put all the blankets back on the couch, nice and neat and it won't stay that way but a minute!!!! And then she gets down and lays on the floor...

Two of my dogs don't make nests, but they do have to have their blankies and they cover themselves up. My Ray terrier couldn't care less.
