Downloading DVD's to computer/ipad

I have several of Patsy Thompson's FMQ dvd's that I would like to download to my ipad so that I can watch them in my sewing room. What program will allow me to convert the dvd to a digital format for computer? A free program is preferred.

Most computers/laptops will play dvd's especially if you have windows media player installed. Put it in and see if it plays. As far as the Ipad, not sure try apple support.

Yes, my computer will play it, but I want it more portable and on my ipad. Will check with apple. Thanks!
