Does anyone have any experiences to share regarding supplementing your home heat using Eden Pure electric heater?

My MIL's budgeted amount for LP went from $185 to $378 a month, for 11 months. That's more than double and it's due to a price increase of 22% plus the loss of the Michigan home heating credit.

Ours isn't that bad since we only use 485 gallons last year, but she used over 1400, and her house is never overly warm.

I haave two that I use. I can't say that it reduces my electric bill any.

My parents use them, they have 3. They are total electric in a rural area which means the electric is very high. It cut their electric bill in half. They dont even use their other heat source now. Electric bills before $400 a month

My Mother in Law bought one for us when we had our first baby. We live in a crap-hole trailer, so it gets very cold in here at night. We kept it in our daughters room and it kept her room comfortable...we were able to put extra comforters on our own bed. I am not sure it would heat a whole large room like a living room...but her little room it did a great job and we didn't notice that much of an increase in the power bills.
Not sure what we will do this year as we have another little person in the house who will be sleeping in our room for now.

Thanks ladies. I expect it to increase the electric bill. But that would only be for the 4 or so months actually in use. Her electric bill is low. But something has to change. We're looking into several options.

Four months use in Michigan??? It was 41 degrees last night! My daughter bought one for a dining room that was open on one wall to the kitchen. She was pleased with it. I don't know how much two would increase the electric bill.

Hi Carol,

I don't have the Eden Pure brand heater but I do have a general cheap brand electric oil filled heater that I have used for several years. I just love it! I won't be a winter without one now.

It is well worth any money to get one of these types of heaters, even if you only get the cheapest of electric oil-filled heaters. They put out consistent warm heat. They work well to supplement your whole house heating system allowing you to turn down the temperature for the majority of the house and therefore heating the room or rooms being used most often.

Try to get one with a thermostat and/or remote control for your MIL.

These types of heaters do not necessarily work well when there is constant going in and out of the house where the cold air from the outside is always getting into the area. For this type of situation I would invest in an electric heater that has an additional fan and one with a thermostat is always an added nice convenient feature.

I also put up a simple cotton drapery panel that hung at the end of the hallway where it opened into my living room. With the drapery panel there was about 18-24 inches open at the bottom. This allowed for proper air flow to draw into the cold air return that was right around the corner in the living room area. The curtain helped to keep heat in the hallway area against the thermostat. The living room and kitchen were comfortable as I was always active while in those areas. I put the heater in my bedroom-bathroom area and it made that area very toasted warm. This was nice as you generally have lighter weight bedclothes on in this area or you're getting undressed to clean up in the bathroom.

I was able to save quite a bit on my monthly gas heating bill. The electric level bill did go up some but I found I was still saving significantly each month with my winter heating arrangement.

You should check with your local utilities to see if you MIL would qualify for any assistance both a one time and or continued assistance program. These programs are based on you income so I would look into if this might be a possibility of help for her.

in a small area would be warm but we have 11 and a half foot ceilings with a 12x30 livingroom we are trying to heat. keeps the chill out. we bank the stove and leave it on at night and the door to our bedroom open also. did raise the bill a little.

We bought one about 5 years ago and used it to warm the living room when we wanted the rest of the house cooler. It kept us cozy and did reduce the electric bill about 25 percent. The one problem we had was this last year...having used it 4 years already....it did not work. We miss it and yet do not want to fix it because it costs too much. Maybe we will get another one this next fall. :thumbup:
