I have no knowledge of this software.

Is it possible to save your design to a USB stick & then put the stick in your machine? You'd need to save the design in a folder, your machine's format first, then to the stick.

Bernina has a free design software called Art Design 1.0. It does not work with Windows 8 tho.

Are your trying to send "software" to your machine?
OR are you trying to get the EMB design over to your machine?

What steps are you trying? What error message are you getting? We need more information in order to help.

When using a USB the least amount of designs work best. If too many files are on the stick the EMB machine can get confused.

Hope that helps.

The 440 has to be attached to your laptop computer. The laptop runs the software and sends stitching instructions over to the sewing machine.

I’m sorry I wasn’t more specific. I have used my 440 with an artista program, downloading on my laptop then “sendin” it to my 440. Haven’t used it in months and now that I want to do some Christmas stuff, the Artista v7 doesn’t seem to want to open. So thought I would try the Edit Express lite free download I use for my little BabyLock Sofia . Well, the edit express opens fine on my laptop and I downloaded my design to the screen. Now see no way to send it to the 440. Can’t find any instructions, tutorials to help this computer jinks (DH term ). Now to make maters worse, I can’t seem to download designs to my baby lock! Know I need to have only a few designs on USB stick but again can’t seem get it loaded!
Ever have one of those days where you spend all afternoon in your sewing room and get nothing done!

This is certainly puzzling. I hope you figure the problem out.

What is the stitch count of the design? Is it over 50K? Looks like Sofia has a limit of 50K.

Can you try another USB stick? Good Luck!

Yes, I have had those days! I hope I can help. I just got done doing some Christmas stuff after not using the embroidery module for months and trying to remember all the steps is tough!

First of all, be sure you have your dongle in the computer or the Bernina software will not open. When I do that, I get a message that says "Security device not found." I have a Bernina 440 without embroidery and a 640 with embroidery. I also worked at a Bernina shop for 8 years, so I have had to solve some of these same issues for customers. (My understanding of the newest Bernina Embroidery Software is that it does not use a dongle but I don't have that software yet. What I have is working and I don't want to get frustrated.)

If you are using the laptop with the "Bernina Embroidery Software", you should find a icon of the sewing machine on the computer screen that will say "Write to machine". You will have to hover your mouse over the icon for the words to appear. I know that works with the 640.

But I think on the 440, you have to use a different program called "EZ on PC" to transfer the design to the computer. I know "EZ on PC" doesn't work with the newer Windows operating systems, but I'm not sure how far back it does work. I remember trying to get a 440 to embroider was often frustrating. Sometimes I got it to work and sometimes it wouldn't work no matter what I tried. The fact that you used it recently, it should work as long as you have not changed computers.

Make sure the cord from the computer is connected to the sewing machine. I remember, one time we had a machine that worked yesterday and would't work the today. We found the cord that went from the computer to the sewing machine failed. We found that by trying a new cord and everything worked fine.

If you are using the computer that is connected to the sewing machine by a cord, the designs have to be in ART format. If your designs are on a USB stick, the designs have to be in EXP format. However, the 440 does not have a USB slot on the machine. If you are using Bernina software, its easy to change the format. Just open the design in "ART" format and do a "Save as" changing the format to "EXP" format.

I know this had a lot of information and a lot of ifs but I hope I've given you some things to check. Good Luck. If you need some more information, please ask. I don't know anything about the Babylock software.

Thanks so much ND quilter. Actually the software won’t even open on the laptop. The icon shows up on the desktop but when I double click on it, nothing happens. Will check the dongle connection but it’s red light does come on. Will also try some other things you suggested.
will work a little more with it tomorrow or off we go to IT doc.
sure wish you were my next store neighbor !

I just read your last comment. I went to the Bernina website and found the 440 manual. The embroidery information starts on page 59. I found out it is EC on PC. (Not EZ on PC) It says to use Editor Lite or Art Design. It also says the Windows operating system is XP or Vista. I'm not sure if Artista V7 is compatible. I remember being told at one point that EC on PC was not going to be supported any longer. It says EC on PC will open automatically. But if the software doesn't open when you double click on it, I don't know what to tell you. Try using a different port. I remember there was something to do about setting the COM PORT. I would just try the different COM PORTS until one worked but you need the software open to get to that part.

Just thought of a Windows quirk. Try putting the dongle in the USB port and then turn on the computer. Depending on the operating system you are using, that may allow the computer to recognize the dongle. It does take a really long time for my computer to load the Artista software, but I do get pictures on the screen so I know something is happening.

If all else fails, call Bernina tomorrow. I can't find a phone number but there is a place to send an e-mail.

Just to add some more confusion it the issues, I notice there is a driver update from July 2017. So that may be your problem. That is beyond my abilities to help. Do you have a Bernina dealer close by? Can you take your machine, computer and embroidery module to them for help.

If the software doesn't open on your computer, you'll have to solve that problem first before you can do anything else. It might not have loaded correctly. If it won't open, you can use it.
