I have the Viking platinum plus. It's a lot less expensive but I have been able to do everything I want on it. I do regular sewing with it also. Love it.

I got real lucky I have a bernina 200 upgraded. My MIL started with a bernina she sews and sells crafts at shows and when the 830 came out she upgraded to it. She had a lot of promblems with it and her and the dealer fought with the machine for a year and it just wouldnt work right, she got so mad at it she didnt want the 830 at all so the dealer gave her a upgraded 200 and a 730 as a replacesment for the 830 and she gave me the 200. I'm the favorite DIL and it has nothing to do with me beening the only one. The bernina's are great just like everything sometimes there just a bad one that noone can figure out

Amazon.com has the PE770 for $667.99 Free Shipping. I have been looking at this one for over one year. Have not seen it any cheaper. Sale ends Friday I think. Also same machine with extra supplies for $898.00.
Have fun if you purchase this machine.

I have a Husqvarna Viking Scandanavia 300. It does embroidery and sewing. I was quite limited in what I could embroider until I bought a card reader/writer. Now I can download tons of files -- many are free. I can't make my own, but I have plenty to work with. I use it frequently, and it's easy to switch from sewing to embroidery.

I have a Janome 11000SE and it cost about $5,000. I've owned it for two years and I use it all the time. I like to make quilts best of all, but I also make towels (kitchen and bath), t-shirts, sweatshirts, and purses. I've done some "in-the-hoop" projects too. The machine is a wonderful sewing machine, as well as an embroidery machine. I love the Acu-quilt feature which allows me to do many fancy quilting designs easily. It even stiples for me! You should check out this machine.

I have a Bernina Artista 730, love that machine! Machine embroidery can be very addictive!

What kind of inexpensive Brother machine do you have? I have a pacesetter PE 100.

Don't buy from any one that doesn't have the mastery machine classes. You will appreciate what you can learn. I'm looking at an 830 also and most places the price is the same, so I'm spending time finding the one that will meet this requirement for me.
