i would never connect my fridge to the internet.

i do like having the water filter, though.

check your fridge settings.
mine has one to "reset" the filter whatchamagig after installing a new one.
odds are that you could take an old filter out, put it back in, and then use the reset.

you can also probably buy a generic version for just about any make/model refrigerator.
the brand name filter for mine is $70 for a 3-month filter.
i bought 3 6-month generics for under $40.
they work every bit as well.

Ours Ice maker malfunctioned & ran water on the floor. Now I have warped flooring in that area.
My friend had same thing happen when they were gone. It ruined their floor & the basement ceiling came down below.

Evidently there’s many issues because the delivery men handed the wrench to us so we were responsible to hook up the water line, putting the responsibility on us.

We buy 5# bag of ice & toss it in the freezer. I want nothing to do with ice makers.

I went to go visit a friend. He was gone, but I heard water running. I used hidden key and found his ice maker flooding his floor. Shut off the water line, mopped the floor and left him a note.

I hated the ice maker in my fridge. Wife loved it. But she wasn't the one who was changing the filter and running up and down the basement stairs to cut the water shut off. Bad design internally and externally. I moved the shut off and coaxed it a while longer. It kept freezing up.. Doh, water line in a freezer I finally gave up, Grabbed the ice cube trays .and always had the ice container full. 6 months later she noticed that the ice was a different shape. Then she got mad at me for not fixing it 6 months ago. Really? She grew up in apartments where all you did was call somebody. This kinds of stuff may have led to her dumping me..

My frig has a filter for the water which I appreciate, but I'm not sure you absolutely have to replace it. It does tell you when to replace it, but has never stopped working if I didn't. You could probably just not replace the filter in the frig and keep using it.

I've had fridges that had filers for at least 20 years now, and I rarely change the filter. I'd forget to change them for years, but I also didn't have one that would "remind" me about it. The one at my old place had other issues at 15 years old, but after DH fixed them it was still going strong at 17 years when we moved last December.
I've also always had an inline filter for the main water, so didn't see any reason to worry about the one in the fridge.

A years old fridge with frost free freezer is costing you a fortune in electric. I didn't believe the energy company rep telling me that i until I bought a new one replacing my faithful old one which was still working. Our electric bill dropped $51 a month. I bought my fridge back in 2011 and I have an ice maker but no water. I also have my drinking water on a filter system with 2 large filters that I change every couple years as I remember to do it This last time I ordered 2 sets of filters so I'd get free shipping but I needed my neighbor to loosen the cover over the filters, it takes a special tool which I have and even he had trouble so you know I'd have never gotten them loose. Anyway, I don't know if my fridge has a filter, can't seem to find the booklet that came with it. Guess I could go online and see what I can find on my model, maybe today. Anyway, I've never changed the mystery filter and my ice cubes look just fine so maybe my water filters are connected to the fridge and I just don't know it. Thanks for the warning on the new fridges. Will let my sister know as she bought her's just a couple years ago.

We also have filtered water...Don't replace my water filter....just "reset" it when the light goes on.

My mother's has a fridge with filter. If she doesn't change it the water barely trickles out. Name brand filter cost 70.00 but I found a pack of 3 for 35.00 on Amazon. My sister retired and moved in with her so she helps out my mom with those type things now. Frustrating that she MUST change the filter like that though.

Ice makers and water filters and now the computer screen on the fridge door....these are all things I can do without. And so far our current fridge is working fine. (hope I just didn't put a hex on it!)
