The last one I had, (a few years ago) The lady said I didn't have to hold my breath and rushed right through it. The whole event really was quite rude. Now, a few times recently, my insurance company keeps calling me to say that the 'Mam' is free and I should only go to a facility that will bill it as a 'check up' Not a 'Screening'. (But, They couldn't tell me where to go for this?)

I have heard such horror stories about the reg mammo's, but I dont find it painful. Undignified? Yes....but not painful. I must have great techs.

Mine is always in February but this year I had to go back in 6 months for a recheck to see if any cysts had grown....I was nervous but all was fine and I go back in February again. Just time it right (mid-cycle if you still have cycles) and it's not bad at all. And for the record, I'm BIG and very cystic....if I can do it, anybody can.

Had mine in June. I go after my annual exam every year. That's one appointment I make sure I get to on time.

I used to get my mamogram every Feb on my birthday. I alway did my monthly self exams too. In Aug of 2009 I felt a lump, (after having my mamo the previous Feb). I had to fight to get another mamogram in Aug. Right breast cancer throughout the breast and pre cancer images showed up in the left breast. The Feb mamo was clear, but because I did my self exams I found the cancer. No more mamos, ever... bilateral mastectomy survivor two years. Play with your boobs, save your life! Hugs to all.

Sometimes local health departments will give vouchers for local hospitals. Don't know if this works where you are but I work for health department here in Illinois that does. Check it out.
