I have given aspirin to my Akita many times - it helps with pain. My Vet said it won't hurt them, but may cause problems with their stomach if given too much. I always gave baby aspirin, which she would just chew and swallow. The amount I give would be the same as for a child of the same weight.

I have given Baby aspirin or Low Dose 81mg aspirin, same thing only cheaper, to my dachshunds when they needed it. I will give them 1/2 a Pepcid to ease their tummy's if it bothers them.

I have one on crate rest right now for a ruptured disk. He is getting 3 different pain meds and steroids so he gets 1/2 a pepcid.

my dog is limping, I took him to the vet yesterday and he may have a torn ligument. He is now on an anti-inflamitory, sorry cant spell today, and is doing better. Once the swelling goes down we will know if he has to have surgery.

I'm so sorry your pup is going to have surgery. I don't know if you've been through it before but mine was just pitiful for about 3 weeks after the surgery. The first few days were horrible and I debated about putting her down, after about 3 months she is almost back to normal. Mine has had both ACL's done now and still limps, until she sees a rabbit and then she takes off like a pup.

I have a bottle of canine aspirin..It is the same dose as baby aspirin..and it has a buffered coating...It will burn or irritate their tummes if it is not buffered..You can but these aspirin at wal mart in the dog supplies...

I was walking around the pet meds in Fleet Farm, looking for animal repelant (cats are digging up my tulips) and I saw aspirin for dogs, I would look there for info.
