my doctor says to drink the unsweetened cranberry juice. it is the sugar in the cranberry juice that makes the the urinary tract sticky.

I have kidney stones and they are the uric acid kind. I just drink tons of liquids and can pass them when they are small. No doctor has ever told me of anything that will stop my body from making them.

That's why I take the pills...no sugar...

And it would take a gallon of cranberry juice/day to equal what I get in the pill form.

For the uric acid form, the kidney foundation recommends to cut back on red meat.

I think everything has been covered but I just wanted to "second" a couple of things. First, the water issue is a must for my poor DH. He has had to have the surgery to blast his twice in the last 5 years and it is all just SO painful. For us, evidently our tap water is a problem so the DR recommended bottled water. Also, I have heard that the cranberry pills do work for some folks. The biggest issue is to make sure she is drinking PLENTY of fluids. Good luck...I hate to hear she is in pain :(
