If it weren't for holidays, my house would never get a good cleaning - my quilt studio is another issue. Always seem to have time to keep that clean - guess its a matter of priorities.

I was raised in the southern tradition that company deserves the best and a clean house is a sign of good manners and respect for others and yourself. I don't clean so much for company as I think my family and I deserve the best home every day. I started when my kids were small having them pick up after themselves and making sure the bathroom is tidy before they leave out of it after a bath. it doesn't take but a minute to wipe down the tub/shower and floor with a used towel. DH does this too. As the kids got older they put their used dishes in the dishwasher or washed them, never left them in the sink for someone else to clean. They never leave a mess they make for someone to take care of. To me that is just plain disrespectful and not allowed. Taking care of the little chores make easy work of doing the bigger ones. I use a cleaning service once a year for the big jobs no one wants to do.

We are planning on selling our house soon and I am dreading it. Although I am not a bad housekeeper, I have a hairy dog and a messy man (MM) living with me. I lovingly call the messy man "Pigpen" after the Snoopy character because he seems to attract dust and dirt. Dust, dirt and clutter to not bother him, he walks around it as if it is invisible. A mini tornado wreaking havoc in his wake.

I have been packing the house for our move while he packs the garage and his shop. He's promised me a place in the garage for all the boxes I have packed. We will see when that happens as right now, we are walking around the boxes and the promised space is just that. I keep thinking I will make a maze of all the boxes to see if he notices. LOL

This was the way I was raised and I raised my kids this way, but the man will not comply. Oh well!

Me.......I enjoy a clutter free home and always have. I have a place for everything. Some how I manage to keep it clean and still find time for quilting.

My mother didn't work until after my sister and I left home. You could eat off the floor until the day she died. But when I moved back to my hometown with my two boys (without husband), she was too busy to spend time with us. She had a routine of which room she had to clean every night. I don't want to be like that. So I have always said "My house is clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy". I have raised two sons that both keep their houses clean so I guess I did something right.

At one time I was a complete fanatic about the house cleaning. It sounds crazy, but I just loved keeping the house clean. However, things have changed as I am older now and don't have the stamina to do too much. And to be honest, I really don't want to do it anymore. There are more important things to do now and I just try to keep it reasonably clean and clutter free.
