Hello! I just found out yesterday that I need surgery soon for a torn right knee menicus & a discoid meniscus with a small cyst. It is not the news I really wanted to hear with summer starting. Really, I am just feeling kinda low. I have never had surgery in my whole 55 yrs except to have my tubes tied 24 years ago. It's sort of scary. Plus, I work 32 hrs per week alot of it on concrete floor standing all day. I am just scared how this is going to affect my finances. Has anyone else had this surgery? Your input would be most welcome.

If your doctor is going to clean out your knee, yes I had the same thing 2 years ago for a torn meniscus and I'm doing fine.
Is that what you mean??? (as opposed to knee replacement, not sure what you meant)

I've not had this exact knee surgery but I have had knee surgery 19 years ago. The only thing I can tell you is rest in the Lord and He will give you strength. He will also take care of the finances in ways you never imagined.
You are in my prayers. {{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}

So sorry you have to have surgery. My best friends brother (who is 21 i believe) has had 2 knee surgeries so far. He had to keep weight off his for about 6 weeks, but he wasn't very uncomfortable after the first day or two just a bit sore. Your work should be willing to work with you and put you on light duty or find a sit down job for the duration of your recovery. I hope someone has more info for you. Please, keep us posted and will keep you in my prayers.

Leola, thanks for the kind words. Yes, I am trying to put my faith in the Lord. In fact, I work at the wonderful church store and went to the prayer room yesterday.
Sue, it is not knee replacement. From what I gather is is just alot of cutting and repairing.

I havent had knee surgery but have had other surgeries. They are all a bit scary because you put your trust in someone else for a bit of time (while you are under anesthetic). Knee surgery has come a very long way the last few years...so many replacements, "clean outs", etc. Your doctor has probably had plenty of experience with this procedure. The nurse will probably give you something to help you relax prior to the surgery (this helps a lot) and like a blink of an eye, the procedure will be over and you will be recovering and on your way to having a happier knee. Concentrate on slow deep breathing if you become anxious. Let us know how you are doing. Take care!

Sorry you have to go through this, but from what I understand it is a common procedure with great results. My son has needed it done for a long time. But he is self-employed as a tile setter, so I understand your concerns about the finances. That is why he hasn't had his done. Plus he is on his knees all the time doing tile work. My Rottie had ACL surgery last November, a steel plate was put in his knee to reinforce the weak ligaments till they heal. Took him 5 1/2 months to heal, but he is a dog and doesn't understand to keep weight off it. He is better than new now and you can't stop him from anything. Keep the faith, you will be protected, as everyone else has said. Will be thinking of you.

Not to worry, you'll be fine. I also had that surgery a couple years ago. I do remember my knee feeling like it had been run through the spin cycle of the washing machine for a while. Not sayin it doesn't hurt, you just do what you have to do. Would help if I would loose weight and I do know that, unfortunately (?) I have not made it a priority. I'm ashamed to say.
