Sorry you sewed your finger!! I am of the mind to use some antibiotic ointment and maybe a bandaid over it. I wouldn't seal it up for a little while. Let it heal. You don't want an infection.
I am also of the opinion that you should finish the quilt too. Just be careful!!!!

Just a thought....when was your last tetanus shot?
I know that the needle is probably not horribly germy, but you never can be too careful.
Definitely wash thoroughly with soap and water, and put antibiotic ointment on it. Then watch for any signs of infection.
Course, you are a nurse, so I don't have to tell you all that ;)

Sorry to hear about your finger, I agree with the keeping it clean and let the air get to it advise! You can't quilt if you get an infection in your finger! That quilt must have been speaking to you to fiish it, so do not give up on it, take a rest and give it another go!
Whilst on the grizzley stories, a lady I worked with a few years back (we made curtains and drapes) was getting a little too impatient with an over thick part of a curtain, tugged at it and 'snap' needle broke and the tip flew into her eye!! Luckily it did not blind her, DR removed it but her eye had bled inside and was bloodshot like you would not believe for ages after! I learned a lot that day I can tell you, after that episode my work mate wore safety goggles!!!!!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and commiseration!! I put some Neosporin oint on it and a ster-strip but I think I'll let it open today. Problem is I have to work tomorrow and I wash my hands 50 times a day so keeping it dry will be a problem. Guess I'll tape it up real well. Tetanus shot? Hmm--last one?? Thanks for the reminder Nursie-don't we make the worst patients?
Remember the old joke: what's black and white and read all over? A newspaper. DH suggested I call this quilt "black and white and bled all over". Not laughing!!

Guess it's bc they are so glad it's not them, and making us laugh!
mine loves a good reason to poke fun!
I am so sorry you sewed through your fingers where all those nerve ending are...super ouch!
There ought to be a law, that says you can stay home from work for a week due to quilting injury!
I do wonder if the emotional pain that is part of sickness and injury is being projected onto the quilt.
It could be an opportunity to spite-quilt it, or, it could be a sign that you need to kick it in the blocks and walk away.
Wait till you are completely healed to decide.
Once the pain is all gone, you may actually laugh as you finish it.
I think it should go to work for you and you should lay on the bed!...and eat chocolates!
Get a big box of the good stuff and call me! :XD:
