Total chicken and egg envy.! I live where it is frowned upon. There are those who have chickens, I can hear them, but the town told me NO!
What kind of chickens are you getting? I was the 4-H chicken leader when the kids were little and we lived on a farm. I still like Transylvania Naked Necks. They are so ugly. But they live to be very old...maybe up to 10 and still lay. Check Murry McMurry for odd breeds. Another name for them is Turken, but they are not turkeys. Marcia

I'm a city girl but the local market at the corner had free roaming chickens that would chase us and peck at the back of my skinny legs. Since then I really prefer them fried. I'm glad you are getting some though if that's what you want

Those are giant breeds except for the bantam. I agree with the previous poster in that it isn't a very large space (when using the bunny to gauge), especially for those breeds, all of which would grow to be bigger than the rabbit in the picture. You may have some issues with the bigger ones picking on the bantam, and each other for that matter. Not having enough space for them leads to some real nastyness regarding pecking, egg eating and just generally ill tempered, unhappy chickens. Also big chickens means big poop. Be prepared to move the enclosure weekly or at least bi-weekly.

2years ago DH retired and we had had chickens before but not for about 30 yrs. so he wanted them now. My request was that it not look trashy. So at 80yrs old here he is roofing it. He just loves talking to the "girls". We live by a 4 lane hiway so they don't roam but they have plenty of space. here are some pics.....well maybe not ,able to upload.
