I live in Louisiana and I have geckos and small lizards around here all the time. My cats like to watch them out on my patio from the open front door. I really think if one got in the house, the cats would walk the other way and not waste their energy trying to catch one.

My lab was used as a working dog until her retirement - she had an incredibly soft mouth anyway she came in from the garden looking very pleased with herself and obviously had something in her mouth so I held out my hand and said 'dead' her command to give up whatever she was carrying and into my hand she dropped a lovely little field mouse was so surprised I dropped it and then spent weeks trying to catch the little fella - finally caught up with him and released him back into the fields
