Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog". Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog",but I did not once feel slighted.
Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a dog," and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a dog" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.
If you, too, think it's "just a dog," then you probably understand phrases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise."
"Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy.
"Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person. Because of "just a dog" I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future.
So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.
"Just a dog" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day. I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a dog" but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a woman" or "just a man."
So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog," just smile, because they "just" don't understand.

First I must say - LOVE the photo!
Dogs are God's animal gift to we Humans. They love us, worry about us and make us smile when we think we can't.
They never care what we look like, only the love we give back. Thanks for your post.

Anyone who would use the term "just a dog" is not a human. I have loved each and every one of my companions as a member of my family over the years, and when the pass, they have a proper burial, and my heart aches just as it does when I lose a two legged member of my family. I still think of my four -legged members that have passed over the years....and the good times, and still shed a tear or two when I think about them as well. But that's just me, a soft heart. This is also why I currently have 3 that are rescue dogs, because I just can't bear to pass them up when their eyes are speaking to me. If I look at too many, I guess I would become a hoarder like on Animal Planet.

Dogs are a part of the family...not JUST a dog. When you lose one it rips your heart out. They give unconditional love and only want to be your companion and be with you. I am amazed when i read the stories of service dogs to the handicapped, police dogs, and especially the dogs that go to war with our troops. They are a wonderful gift from GOD.
