Thanks ladies for all your help. I think I will go back to the store today, and sniff another bedspread. (Don't think I have ever written such a strange sentence in all my life!! LOL) If it smells the same, I'll return the one I already have. Patski is correct, I might end up with a bedspread that looks "used" and then they won't take it back anyway.
Who cares about the other ones in the store?
All that matters is that the one you have STINKS! .... Take it back!!! and don't accept another as an option. Money back is the only option.
.............. and heck, you're a quilter ..... make your own!!

Sorry, what I meant was, if I can find another one of the same bedspread that does NOT smell, I will buy that one, and then take the original one back. I didn't actually say what I meant on the other post and that was confusing. I'm taking the smelly one back in any case... !!

When my 1st DH was Longline fishing in NC, an old codger told me one day to use Colgate toothpaste when I washed his 2 week old fishy smelling clothes. It's the sodium laurel sulfate in the toothpaste that knocks out the stink. I just disolved half a tube in a cup of water and poured it into the LAUNDRAMAT washer. Worked like a charm.
Since you're taking the bedspread back you don't need this info but thought I'd add it for future reference. Might have worked.
