When the dust bunnies start to carry off the family pets it's time to dust.

Try using fabric softener sheets to as dust rags. I've read that the softener repels the dust. I've always wanted to try it on window blinds.

My house is totally closed up-my yard is completely grassy-not much traffic on my little side street. But I could spend all day every day dusting front to back top to bottom and an hour later start all over again. But I don't. I have a routine laundry on Tuesday-clean the house on Weds.every thing else is done as needed. The only company I get is family and they don't care if the place is a tad dusty. So put on blinders until its house cleaning day and if guest feel offended by your dust hand them a dust rag- this could cut your dusting time in half.Oh let the tall visitors get the stuff thats hard to reach : )

Well I read every single entry on this thread looking for the secret. I guess there is no answer to this problem, no secret to be found. I hate to dust and usually don't worry very much about it but my mom is coming tomorrow for a two week visit. I just know that no matter how clean the house is, it's the dust that she is going to see (and comment on). We'll if that's the only negative thing she sees during her stay (which it won't be) I'll be doing good.

Our town is surrounded by farm fields. Dust is a constant problem. I don't bother with it. Now that I have a housekeeper I let her deal with it every other week.

Dust rule in my house - If you touch that shelf and it shows - then get a rag. The cat swished his tail on a shelf once and I used his tail to finish dusting the shelf.

I, too, live in a farming area with fields all around me, plus we heat with wood so a double dose of dust for me. I use to love & have dark furniture & the dust was really bad then. Now I have very light furniture & I very rarely see the dust anymore. The only way I know it is there is if I run my finger over something & it accumulates on my finger. Then I know it is time. LOL

My house is open to people anytime. They know how busy I am with a PT job and all the sewing I do.
I loath dusting and any housecleaning. I clean only when the socks get too dirty or stick to the floor. I clean toilets when I change the paper roll. Or when I KNOW company is coming. I consider it pointless.
This "cleanliness" is a conspiracy by those that manufacture all those cleaning products. The medical world says our children would be healthier if were weren't so hung up on clean. Remember that little homily about a child eating a peck of dirt.. Well my kids sure did. We all are healthy, with no allergies so what's the big fuss. My husband agrees with me. We try to stay uncluttered (which to me is WORSE than dusty ). We don't live in a sty, we eat off clean dishes and my friends are my friends regardless of the state of my floors. I really wonder if those who keep their house SPOTLESS have anything else to do?

I agree! Dust doesn't hurt anything. Nobody will hate you if your house is dustier than theirs. Have a day to dust and move on to sewing!!!
