boy, oh boy. come to my house. it was built in 1958 and is falling apart. one plumbing bill recently was $3,000.00! the next was less than $200.00 (different plumber). nothing is to 'code' here, so i hate to call in repair people.

The fridge I replaced last August was a GE - 21 years old with no repairs. My GE stove is 18 years old and going strong - knock on wood. When I bought the new LG fridge, which is not as big as it states, the salesman told me to expect to replace it 5 years. I told him he had to be kidding.

The Whirlpool washer and dryer are not going to last long, but they are not quality products. I think they're about 7. I knew going in on this that you get what you pay for, but that's all I had available. Such is life.

I really think they put a device in our appliances that makes them break down faster. That way, they can get more of our money. My great aunt used the same stove, refrigerator, and sink for over forty years. (They were the turquoise blue ones from the 60s.) They were only replaced (because they were outdated, not dead) when she passed away and her home was taken over by her son and wife.

Nowadays, it seems everything goes out faster. Poorer workmanship and the need for manufacturers to get repeat business.

Not only does the destructor device make things break down faster, it also makes them break down two weeks after the warranty expires.
