Oh Ninnie that is SO funny!!
I've worked in the service dept of Chevy dealerships since I was 19, so have been working mostly with men my whole life - I know JUST what you mean!! LOL
My "brother" Bill & I shared an apt for a couple of years. In the bookcase, he found my book called "Symptoms". He finally admitted to me that he had to hide it from himself because as he was looking thru' it, he became SURE that he HAD all those diseases....including Beri-Beri!!!! LOL He NEVER had a cold - it MUST be INFLUENZA or something else incredibly dreadful~!!

When we were newly married...my ex would get a cold, he'd lay on the couch...moaning...I would ignore him  he'd moan louder...I'd chuckle to myself from the other room....he would keep it up, louder and louder, until either I would come in and offer the proper amount of sympathy    or the neighbors would be pounding on the wall wondering what all that racket was
