I have the electronic ones but still catch mice in the trap not a foot away from it. Country mice are smart little buggers! I refuse to use the poison as I found dead mice all over the house the year I did that and we had a rat die inside a cold air duct ug what a smell! and no way to get him out!

I alway thought that they went outside to find a water supply and once they drank the water they died.

I am freaking here I NEVER had mice when I lived on Long Island and when I had the first one in Ohio I as ready to pack up and move.

Now I am freaking out I hate mice with a passion I will die if they get into my fabric. OMG I forgot I also have bags of flour and pasta in totes. Since I can't get to a store I have to buy in bulk on line. I hope they don't chew through and get into my food.
If you haven't had mice in the past, you probably won't have mice now.

They are kind of cute, though - when they are outside or in cages.

If necessary, just wash and dry the fabric if mice run around on it. It's no more of a disaster than if a baby peed on it.

If you have health issues, wear rubber gloves and a mask while handling it.

They can find water in your home, fish tanks, sinks, toilets and some of them just died wherever they were, I even found one on top of the washing machine.

You can store your flour and pasta in the freezer; if you have room.

You can get a poison bat from the feed store - it's a turquoise bar. The mice/rats eat it & it mummifies them so if they die inside your wall or whereever it won't stink.

(sorry, but I can't remember the name of it)

I am allergic to cats so that is not an option. I don't have the room to move the sewing room upstairs. I hope I don't have to give up sewing for the winter. Thanks for letting me vent.
I use peanut butter on the old fashioned little wooden spring traps. I have a pest service come in also with those little boxes -- but there are always some in the traps. If you can't stand dumping the dead mice -- just buy more traps. In a summer place closed all winter you learn to expect critters.

I store blankets and fabrics in wooden chests. -- have your DH build some out of plywood if he is handy

Also -- put poison bait outside your house -- lean a small board against the foundation so the rain and larger animals can't get at it and the mice can run in a nice darl "hallway"

   no I don't have room. I have 10 bags 5 lbs each of flour, 4 bags of corn meal and about 15 lbs of pasta. I would need a walk in freezer for that.
