And here is something I heard on the radio today from a security person. We give our phone numbers to so many places - doctor offices, places we do business with, on websites (of course not all of do this) and he said phone numbers are another way to hack into places the hackers shouldn't be. Seems like the only way to stay safe from
all of this is to live off the grid. Really off the grid. As in no phone. No internet. No banking. Etc. not really practical.

oh gosh too funny that was for a different thread. I'll go get the right one.
Can't find it, but the owner of the Florida company that was making millions of these calls got a HUGE fine.
using local prefixes have overwhelmed aid services, police services, etc so government is really cracking down on them.

Lately I have been besieged by calls and texts from some company who says they are trying to contact me to help me get my student loans forgiven. All of my student loans have been paid off since 2004! Currently I am batting up to 4-5 per day of texts and phone calls. This is over a month since I started reporting each and every call or text to the "do not call, do not text" number! They just keep changing the number they appear to be from! That is how telemarketers and robocallers are getting away with bothering people who are on the list! I did try calling one of the numbers they left and screaming "leave me lone" once I identified myself by name only! They keep asking for my SSN# "to look me up"! I am not stupid enough to give it to them.
