Vaseline is a barrier product. It prevents the sweat from leaving your skin. That is what provides the softening - your own body fluid stays in the skin rather than continues to leave through evaporation. Periodically, give yourself a break from the vaseline product. Soak in a bathtub. Don't use other products, just soak in water comfortable for you. It helps to rehydrate the skin and soften calluses. Now that I'm older, I have to do that at least once a month or I get skin so dry and cracked that it bleeds. You likely need it more often.

My podiatrist recommended Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion as well and it works great (when I remember to use it) lol. I am also a diabetic and try to take good care of my feet, as it's very important.

Be careful--lotion making can become as addictive as quilting. I know from experience.

Wish I could use Vaseline. I too have neuropathy. I am allergic to any petroleum based lotions, creams, etc. and break out in tiny blisters.

I heard on the radio this a.m. that you should not use lotion - it has too much water in it but to use cream.

I have used this for years. I find winter hard on my skin and nothing I have ever tried does a better job I use pure Vaseline on my feet and legs after my shower at night. ( socks and pj's )
I also use Vaseline Intensive Care lotion. You will notice a differences almost immediately.

Many lotions have something in them to make them 'dry' up on your skin more quickly......those actually dry the skin out.

Yes most lotions have lots of stuff in that evaporates, water, alcohol, etc.. Vaseline or petroleum products will not evaporate into the air.

I really don't understand the vasiline thing. It is a petroleum product and has carcinogens. ANYTHING you put on your skin is going into your body. That is why pain patches work so well. They are absorbed right into your blood stream and vasiline is also. Your skin is like one big sponge. I would use Eucerin or one of the non-petroleum products. JMHO. I use olive oil and always have and I have skin like a babys bottom, even my face, very few wrinkles and lines and I am 73.
