Bumble's hearing is just fine. It is the white gene linked with the blue eyed gene that tends to make cats deaf. That being said, all cats have selective hearing....they only ever hear what they want to anyhow.
As for the "Bumbles bounce" reference....Yes, the kitten was named after Bumble, the abominable snow monster in the Rudolph cartoon.
Bumble had his first vet checkup yesterday. He is healthy but underweight. 2 lbs 2 ounces. He should be 3lbs or more at his age. Since he is eating and drinking good, fattening him up shouldn't be a problem.
He is a very happy kitten. If he is awake he is purring. If someone is petting him, he is purring even louder. Right now he seems to have no interest in playing, he is very interested in exploring the house tho. I am having a hard time keeping an eye on him, he keeps escaping the room that I want him to stay in.
Even though we thought a lot about it, we have not gone to adopt his brother. This one is going to be enough of a handful I suspect. Also, here in our city we are allowed to have 3 cats. Any more than that and we need to apply for a fanciers license. Normally, I would say this isn't even something that the city will know about since they are indoor cats. But....all 3 of my kitties have come from the animal shelter, we are in the computer and they know about all 3. Funny part is that the city doesn't know about my outside feral cat that lives 24/7 on my patio (She is a totally different story), and her 2 feral boyfriends that show up here every night Don't worry folks, all my ferals have been fixed and have had their shots!

Well I guess I really don't need to post this but will anyway. I wanted to ask how meowy of you had fur babies inside. I lost my outside kitty almost a year ago and I am think of getting another but can't bear to have it outside this time. Someone let their dogs roam & they kill my Callie and I don't want to go through that again. Now that I'm caregiving my Dad, niether of us are outdoors like we use to be. So I told him the next kitty will have to be inside, this will be a new experience for me though. Any advice?

To DebJ: I live in the city and don't believe in the whole indoor/outdoor cat thing. My indoor cats have never been outdoors. I do realize that there are many that will tell me that I am wrong in thinking this way though. I feel there are too many dangers outside for them with the stray cats and possible diseases from them, dogs, traffic etc.
My cats are quite content to be inside. One of them will not even go out an open door. The other one has tried to sneak out, but as soon as she is out she gets scared and starts whining.
The downside of having inside cats is dealing with the litter box. I have 2 boxes and will be adding a 3rd with the new kitten. I clean those daily so the house doesn't stink, and am constantly sweeping up the litter that they knock out of the box. Another downside of inside cats is the fur they shed on everything. Many will say another downside is cats sharpening claws on furniture, but they can be trained to use scratching posts instead of the couches
The upside of inside cats is that they are my constant companions. Cats sleep most of the day, but mine prefer to sleep in whatever room I am in. If I talk to them, they talk back to me, If I ignore them then they curl up near me and wait til I pay attention to them.
With the cats being inside all the time, it is very easy for me to monitor their eating and health. I know at any given time how much they are eating and drinking, who isn't feeling well etc. My adult cats as well as the new baby all have medium to long hair and its gotten to the point that the girls come to me daily to be combed. The routine started when they would jump up on my desk while I was on the computer and I picked up a brush as long as the cat was there. Now they jump up here on purpose to be combed. Even tho baby Bumble has only been here a few days, he has already had is daily brushing so he will get used to it too.
The best advise I could give you for a first time indoor cat is to cat proof your house first. The sewing room can be dangerous for a cat, put the pins away and clean up any thread clippings. make sure any cleaning fluids are in a cabinet that the cat can't open. Yes, cats can open cabinets, get some baby locks! If you are getting a kitten, keep the toilet lid closed. My adult cats actually like to watch the toilet water flush down, but I am always afraid a kitten will fall in and drown. In the past I tried making cat beds for my cats, don't waste your time. Cats will find the places in your home where they want to sleep. I have a cat that sleeps in the bathroom sink, one that prefers the top of the chest freezer, and who knows what spot Bumble will choose. A few cat toys and simple things like empty shoe boxes and paper bags will keep a cat entertained.
I totally recommend getting a cat from your local shelter. There are so many loving cats there of all ages and it feels good to save a kitty life!

Get the brother!!!! It would probably put the big girls more at ease because the little boys would entertain themselves. I always adopt in pairs. I guess that's how I would up with 6 dogs and 4 cats! LOL!
