Default Need advice please

Im having a little dilemna here. Nothing too major. I am making my daughters best friends 3 year old little girl pajamas for Christmas out of flannel. I hope they turn out. Anyways it calls for 3 small buttons on the nightgown/top front. They dont go all the way down just a few inches. (Its just a slit in the front). Instead of making button holes, do you think it would be okay to use velcro and just sew a button on the outside as if I had made buttonholes? Or do you have another solution?

Velcro is a bit stiff, maybe you could use press studs (snaps)...the ones you sew on (sorry, not sure what they call them in the US). Then you can sew the button on the outside.

I don't see why that wouldn't work and it would be easier for the child than buttons. I am sure they will turn out just fine.

I would not use velcro...sticks to everything..if she was cuddling a blankie it would get caught...

velro would work - but be sure to put the hook side of the tape on the side facing out so that if they don't get the loop side centered, it won't scratch their skin. The other idea of hooks is also...but have you thought of stitching magnets into the fabric? stitch them between layers - so many options, so little help!?!?!?!?

I think it's perfectly fine to use the Velcro. I would use a small strip of it. I would use 1/2" or less..

I forgot about those (kids grown, no grands yet), I used the ones that used a tool. I remember it was a metal piece that you put on top of the snap and hit with a hammer. Don't know if they still make those, I used them in the 80's and 90's. Also I remember a tool that looks like pliers and you pressed them together with the fabric in the middle, think I still have those.

Tthanks everyone. Never heard of using magnets ktbb. Shes a very very smart little girl. She knows how to tie her shoes and has probably for a year ir more. She can do buttons but Im not wanting to do buttonholes. Im a bit lazy as Ive got so many things on the fire for Christmas that Im worried about not getting it all done.

I would not use velcro. Velcro sticks to everything when washed, and will be a major PITB, for the mom. Snaps would be a good alternative, if you don't want to make buttonholes.
