It sounds like your doc was trying to be witty. I agree with everyone else, find a new doctor, one that will help you manage the pain and will work with you to develop muscles to protect the joints. Here are gentle hugs to you!

So sorry to hear of your pain, My is hereditary also, no fun, I often think there are 8 of us they could of spread some of this around instead of giving it all to me. So much for my golden years. you just make the best of it what you can and be happy any way, just to save your sanity.

I agree with some of the others...what an unprofessional and downright mean thing to say to you! Please change doctors if you can; find a recommendation from a friend or use word of mouth in your area to find a kind and caring doctor who will want to make you at least comfortable, if not healed. I'll pray for your joints, too.

Ditto on the second opinion. There are all sorts of medicines for uses that are not limited to MD's. There are homeopathic/natualpathic alternatives to medicines without pharmaceuticals. So, check around. You could also find and contact the closest Arthritis Foundation. They sometimes have connections with specialists in the area that they reccomend, and sometimes have workshops/classes. Easter seals also has classes in some areas with the WMCA that use water aerobics for the pain of arthritis. Just ideas to check out. Good luck:)

So sorry you are in pain, yes, get a second opinion. I've had both knees done and the pain from arthritis in the other parts of my body especially the hands and fingers is always present. I take medicine but I feel the best when I'm doing water aerobics three days a week. You almost forget you can't do certain things when in the water.

Poor you, I can relate to your problems. I have had my right knee replaced twice. First replacement lasted 12 years.
this last time was 6 years ago and no problems so far. I do have arthritis in all my joints but an Alieve will help me if it gets too bad. My thoughts are with you. Hang in there.

I also have degenerative Arthritis, and RA and have suffered for years with pain in my shoulders. Mine is always that my bursa is inflamed. I get cortisone shots into the joint about every year to 18 months and it is usually one shoulder and then the other is next. I would never ever go back to a Doctor that said that to me. I would also contact the office and tell them to move all my medical information to a new Doctor after you have gotten one, and then tell them why. I hope you get some relief soon. I am going in soon for my shot. Jan
