Default Need help I need to make a seat for an innertube.

I am trying to make a seat to attach to an inner tube for a pool for my special needs grandson. He would not be in the seat unattended. I just want my daughter to put him in the seat so she can play with him and not have to hold him all the time. He is 12 and tall but less than 100 lbs. I found an innertube at Sam's club that is made of fabric and filled with foam beans. It is very bouyant. It is 32 inches across and the sides are 22 inches around. I am not any good at designing and I could really use some help. I have seen seats that attach to noodles which seem like a good start but it needs a front. It needs to be like the ones that hold a baby, so he doesnt fall out. amazon.com/SwimWays-Noodle-Chair-Colors-Vary/dp/B019C2COVO/ref=sr_1_18? This website shows the seat for the noodle.

Would this idea help. Cut 2 strips of fabric about 50"x 18" and stitch them together at the middle. Then sew each end to your 'inner tube' to make a square seat. If you wanted to wrap the fabric around the tube you would need the strips to be at least another 45" longer.

I might be a bit concerned about the foam beans though as they have a habit of moving around. Could you make a sleeve and use a couple of noodles instead.

Hi & welcome to the board. This is a great place for encouragement & help. Here's what I have found on the web for you. This one is not instructions but you should be able to make something similar from just seeing what they've done here.

We love pictures here & would like to see what you come up with on this.

Here are instructions for a noodle seat:

I think for safety sake I would just spend the 20$ for the seat at Clear Creek and be at ease with safety.

I am thinking the same as MissPriss ....

Yes, it would be nice to personalize it by making/adapting it yourself.

However, with it being for use in water, safety is paramount.
I would not want to risk the adaptation being a downfall to the end design or results,
and possibly creating a danger.

Instead, make a fun wrap for your grandson for before/after!
He'll love it because it came from you.

My first thought is to cut a large rectangle. Wrap the back section over the tube and attach it to the rectangle under the tube, this would be where his bum would sit. Then trim the front section narrower so it could comfortably slip between his legs and fold it over the front to attach under the tube. I would probably attach the pieces with the large heavy duty snaps so that it would hold in the water and any bouncing he would do and yet be able to be removed. This is a great idea, it seems so much safer than the arm bands or noodles.
