Need Ideas on how to keep a quinea pig warm
I moved into my daughter's home with them and somehow I became a grandma to a guinea pig name Piglet. Piglet lost her sister this pass summer. It's wintertime her in Michigan now and she seem to be cold to me in her pen by herself. Can someone give me an idea on how to make her feel warm since she does not have her sister to cuddle up to anymore.

To say the least ... terrible fire hazards.
Best to talk with a vet to know what the needs really are for the guinea pig.
What "looks" to you as her being cold, may be perfectly healthy for Piglet!

There are heating pads for pets (cats and dogs) that keep the warmth very low, near body temperature. You can wash the covers. You would want to put it on just one side of the cage so she could get away from it if she wants. Places like Petsmart and Petco stock them I would call one of those places and ask if they would be suitable for a guinea pig (I think they would). You could make extra covers easily, being a quilter. these are not the same as regular heating pads in that the temperature is constant and mild.

I have something called a snuggle safe to put in my dogs crates. Its a disk you heat in the microwave and it stays warm for hours. There are some newer ones that are nicer (mine are about 10 years old). They're a bit pricey but last for a long time. Look at a pet store (Petco, Petsmart) for pet bed warmers.

Plenty of bedding. My daughter had one in her classroom several years ago and I found a pattern for a "bag" of sorts that the little critter could snuggle into. Trouble was that it was not pristine about keeping the bag clean! I think I found information online about the bag. Made it from flannel.

GPigs like the temp about 70 degrees but can handle down to 65. You may give her a small fleece blanket to cuddle under since she has no mates. Or a small box filled with shredded paper. Please keep, her away from heat vents, wood stoves and certainly heat lamps. A small sock filled with rice and heated in the microwave will stay warm for a couple of hours but please wrap it in a towel to keep from burning. Make sure she is out of drafts, even if you have to cover the top of her cage with a blanket for the night. Make sure she gets plenty of vitamin C. I have had several G Pigs and find them very social and sweet.

As a nice treat for Piglet, get a small furry animal so it can have a friend to cuddle with. My Sophie was alone after my Gentle Ben, Chocolate Lab passed. Finally got her some furry bears from the resale store, washed them up and now she is back to herself again. Piglet might be in mourning without her sister. Sophie sleeps ON her bears just like she did with Ben, she needed the comfort so she could heal from her loss.
